This may be a strange request, but I am trying to stop my wife from smoking cigarettes by showing her that she can get the same thing from an electronic cigarette - without the smell or the health risks. I have bought her a couple of cheap e-cigarettes in the past but she did not like either of them and they were both "lost".

She says she enjoys smoking, and generally only does it away from the house and the kids (work, driving, etc) but the smell is a clear give away to us all that even if we don't see it she is a smoker. I am really hoping I can find something that tastes and feels like a cigarette to her and still gives her a reason to go outside and smoke at work with her friends. I heard a news story about e-cigarettes the other day that said they are only about as dangerous as coffee - quite an improvement over regular cigarettes. =)

At this point I am willing to spend up to $100 on my gamble, but obviously if I can get out for less than that I would be pleased. My concern is that if I don't buy her a good replacement it will end up "lost" like the 2 $5-10 ones I bought her in the past. I am willing to spend the money but I want it to be spent on something with a decent chance of working.

So, is there anything that a majority of folks can agree would be a good cigarette replacement for someone that smokes approximately 3 packs of marlboro lights per week and enjoys the act, feeling, and taste of smoking?

Thanks for any help. =)

I wouldn't push her too hard, you don't want to run her off :)
I'll let others recommend equipment, but I started vaping to cut back on how much I was smoking, not quit. I also wanted to be able to vape where I couldn't smoke... sometimes people's cars, homes, all bathrooms, etc. perhaps you will have better luck with a use it sometimes to just cut back approach.
I wanted to cut back to 1 pad. I cut back to 2 cigs a day without trying and much to my surprise. (I smoke the 2 cause I'm old and I want to :))

It's VERY hard to find a 'tastes like an analog' flavor, there are some that are close but nothing's going to be spot on, believe me I've tried. The best way to approach a situation like this is get something that is NOT a $5-$10 disposable, or if it is a disposable get something good, not a Blu from your local gas station. Is there a particular dessert she likes, a favorite food dish, favorite drink? That's what I'd look at for a starter flavor, give her something she's going to like the taste of for it's own merits, not something she'll constantly compare to 'not being an analog'.

As far as kit goes, a lot of people keep pushing eGos which are fine, affordable, etc, but to me they're too large to be a good starter for someone used to analogs. This is my personal opinion and a lot of people will disagree with me I'm sure, but I'd recommend a KR808 cigalike to start her, something reputable with replacement cartos in a variety of flavors. Perhaps look at V2 or White Cloud if you want a big-name..they seem to get a lot of crap around here cause people like eGos/VVs/VWs/etc but I personally got off analogs using a kit from Premium, which is nearly identical to the V2/White Cloud offerings. Only reason I don't recommend Premium is because they're a bit expensive for what you get.

I see you are in Texas - if you are in the DFW, Austin, San Antonio or Houston area then there is definitely a brick and mortar store around you. I recommend taking her shopping. An Ego-Twist is a great first battery but the staff in the store would really work with her to find what is going to be best for her.

I thought for a second that my hubbie wrote this. :) I was a closet smoker for many many years. I never smoked in front of my kids and they are 17, 18, and 21. I just started vaping a little over a week ago and don't miss smoking one bit! I started with the gas station throw always and they just didn't do it for me. There is a certain throat hit that was missing even though I was getting the nicotine.

My friend insisted I try what she was using and she was right. Check out the Go-go starter kit at Cig Easy. It is 60.00 and comes with two batteries, a charger and three Fury tanks and a bottle of juice. They even threw in another bottle of juice for free. That is enough to get her started. Once she sees that she can get the same satisfaction without the smell, taste, and side effects of the cigarettes she will be sold!

Where in Texas are you? I am in San Antonio and there are two vape stores plus a kiosk in the mall that I know of.

I love (ed) the fags and since yesterday I've only touched the V2 menthol. Have tried to quit before but this is the only thing that resembles a cig for me (or as near to). I did lots of research before hand and based on reviews off other users I knew this was the right choice for me. Your wife should try it, treat as she would a normal cig and I'm sure she'll agree it's better than all the crap she's filling her lungs and blood stream with.:)

Tough one man, shes gotta be the one that wants to quit analogs. What ever you do ask her to give vaping an honest try if not for you or her own good, but for the kids. They want Mom around for a long time...
I'll let others chime in on the hardware but I think $100 ain't gonna do it. But don't you worry, you really cant put a price on this. YOu need to be "whatever it takes" support.
Find a local vaper on this board or HONEST brick & motor shop and take her for a day trip. Let her chose the equipment AND juice. It will take some playing with... the right feel, taste and nic level is key to success. Also allow her to have that cigarette as long as she is willing to give vaping an honest try. Soon she will find she no longer wants to smoke and will be the one that converts her coworkers into this new, modern method of nicotine delivery.

I know what you mean I was the ultimate smoker, I had been worked on by experts ex-smokers would constantly badger me to stop, my family none of which smoke would give me a hard time; for them I tried everything from patches to gum all with no effect, the problem was I didn't want to give up I enjoyed it, and the more folk went on about it the more stubborn I got. i tried an e-cig lookalike it was ok but I did not get the hit I was looking for, then I heard about the tanks. Epiphany the slimer mouthpiece felt way better the good throat hit was amazing, I am on the strong levels though 24mg and sometimes 30mg but maybe one day I will drop the strength I don't know but it is still better than analogues. The point is your wife has to at least want to think about it and needs space to fall every now and then, but I am fairly sure that the experience with tanks will be so much closer to smoking than she realises. But take it slowly let her come to the decision herself, for I believe you have to do it for yourself not for anyone else. Sorry if this sounds a bit preachy, but it is coming from the heart believe me. I hope your wife finds the same success I did after 50 years a smoker.

Tell her about how awesome it is to be able to vape in the house! That is one of my favorite things about it. Before I would have to make an excuse to go to the store or something bogus like that and huff one really quick. Lather on the perfumed hand lotion. Pop a mint and then deal with the guilt. Now I can lay in bed and watch tv and vape to my hears content!

The secret to successfully making the switch from cigs to vaping is that the user has to WANT to make the switch.

The MOST important piece of gear for making the change is NOT what's in your hands--it's what's between your ears.

You can have the most flavorful juice, the most advanced PV, the easiest-to-use and best-performing atty on the planet, but if you don't WANT to give up cigs, it won't work.

And on the other hand, you can have some funky Chinese juice in a 901 "3-piece" stick battery setup, and if you WANT it to work, you won't touch another cig after the first couple days. (that's what I did!)

So the first thing your wife needs to do isn't get some super-high-tech vaping gear or amazing juice. The FIRST thing she needs to do is decide that smoking is bad for her and those around her, and that vaping is a way to get the flavor and nicotine she enjoys from smoking.

Free your mind, and the rest will follow...

How about something like this:
Kangertech Esmart Black electronic cigarette

It's smaller than an eGo, larger than a cigalike... battery life is in the middle. Two batteries, means you always have one to use while the other is charging. Has an easy to fill clearomizer by a company that makes well-liked clearomizers for flavor/performance, and a standard 510 connection. And it's pink! :)

Should she decide to expand and upgrade, this won't be obsolete.

Also, get her sampler packs of eliquid from multiple vendors, as it's the liquid that is the key component to whether you like the taste or not. Include a tobacco or two, but don't focus on it. Get some fruits, some bakery, some tea/coffee, some mint/menthol.

And if you go through with this, collect all the packages and don't give it to her until you have it all together. That way she will have the full juice selection and not just one or two that she may not like right off the bat.

Good luck

Yes, $100 is what I am willing to put into this initially. After that its just maintenance - I doubt its going to be as expensive as cigarettes.

And we have a small "smoke shop" here in town (I live in Kyle, between San Antonio and Austin) so perhaps I will drop in and talk to him. See if he carries enough of this type of stuff that I could bring her in for a "fitting" =)

Thanks for the advice everyone. =)

Is it completely without smell? I know it is less smelly than cigarettes, but smoking them in the house isn't stinky or bad?

If she really can smoke these in the house that might be a really big sales point for her...

I think everyone is pretty much on the right track. You can't make her switch, and you're going to hit heavy resistance if you push it. Maybe you could pitch it as a more satisfying substitute than nicotine gum for those times when she just can't smoke. Of course, she'll have to figure out the equipment ahead of time, but if she uses it when smoking is also possible, just pretend not to notice.

A brick and mortar is a good idea so that she can sample juices. There's lots of good equipment out there, and lots of good juices too. But, it may take a bit of trial and error to find a device she likes along with the juice she'll enjoy. Being able to put her hands on the equipment and sample the juices will go along way to finding a combo that will work for her.

My girlfriend commented on the smell of the clove liquids I prefer, but said they smelled nice, way better than the clove cigs I used to drag on. Personally, I can't smell it at all myself, presumably because I'm vaping it myself. I would imagine other flavors will be similar, i.e. vanilla is going to smell like a bakery, fruity flavors will smell like someone was eating said fruit in the same room, that sort of thing.
