Hi Guys I am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. I recently got the SMOK Alien 220 Mod and just started using the Baby tank that it came with.

I have been reading forums where people are getting weeks out of these coils and so far I have gone through 4 in maybe a 2 week time frame. They seem to last me at most 3-4 days before I start tasting burnt. Right now I have a V8-T6 coil in and the mod is set to 65 WATTs, I put this coil in two days ago and I am starting to get a slight burnt taste already.

I prime the coils as I was instructed I even dry hit the crap out of it before I start. I always start low way below the best wattage settings.

Could it be my juice? Could it be the way I inhale? ( too hard or too light?). I just have never experienced this before. I was using the tobecco super mini tank before this and I have never had this issue. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I just got a Smok Q-Box that uses V8 Baby coils and haven't really been using it regularly enough to be able to answer your question about how long they should last. I am replying to say that I know with my Joyetech eGo AIO if I take slow puffs longer puffs they burn out fast. I get less than 2 days out of them when I was making that mistake so now I hit it harder for 4/5 secs. draws and I can now get 6 tanks (2 ml) out of a coil and that was during a period of chain vaping before I got maybe 1 1/2 tanks. That was the 0.6 ohm coils so now I am testing how many tanks I will get on the 1.0 ohm coils.
How tight do you have the airflow? I heard this could also make a difference. If it is to tight not enough cool air is coming in to help cool the coil down.
It would be nice to find a breakdown of how many 2 ml tanks you can get out of each type of coil which to me would be better than saying you should get x number of days out of this coil vs. that coil. After all chain vaper's won't get as long out of a coil but do they get the same number of tanks. How does taking slow draws vs. medium vs. fast draws effect the life of different coils would also be nice info to have.

I would say it is hard for me to measure tanks as I do not lot the juice get to the top of the side intakes before I top it off. I would assume I get a lot more tanks than you are getting.

I have the air flow all the way open and I inhale pretty average to hard I would guess.

The only thing I can think of is I am using a wrong coil for the 70/30 juice I am using and it is building up or there is something wrong with my MOD or Tank. I have tried only the V8-T6 / T8 coils and I barely get them to the recommended settings. They work great for about two days before I start tasting a burnt taste not strong but something I would expect if the coil was a week old.

I'm wondering if your mod is reading the ohms wrong and sending too much power to the coils? I'd suggest you compare the ohms on your mod display with the ohms written on the coil its self. If they don't match then you can try adjusting the ohm's on the mod manually and see if that helps.
If you're using TC then you might need to change the tcr settings to prevent overheating.
Otherwise, if it's a road you don't mind going down, you could invest in a RBA section where you can build / rebuild and rewick your coils for a much lower cost over all.
Best of luck in sorting this out :)

Dark or overly flavored or colored and especially sweet liquids will shorten head life considerably.
If you like highly flavored sweet goopy liquids a few hours to a few days
(10ml - 70ml) could be normal depending on quality of liquid.
One reason RBA's are popular.

70PG / 30VG?
Nic mg/ml?

It takes quite a bit of airflow to keep the coils inside the head cool enough to prevent scorching / burning the wicking material.
A fairly hard fast DTL is what those delivery devices are designed for, a slow smooth draw will cause the coils to over heat & burn wicking closest to coils.

Over powering will give a hot or dryish taste, overly flavored or sweetened liquids give off a burnt taste intermixed with the taste of whatever flavor you're using.
Under powering causes the flavorings & sweeteners to caramelize on the coils when it finally gets hot enough to vaporize it tastes odd, off, funky or burnt.

The ohms are reading right. I actually updated the firmware to VB1.0.3 yesterday and it seems to be hitting a little less hard so maybe i had a screwed up configuration or something. I will know more as this coils is now on day 2 but so far so good and seems to be a lot less hard on the coil. I am using a T8 right now at 70 but i actually feel i probably need to turn it up.

I do inhale pretty hard the coil isnt getting hot. The juice I am using is the iced apple reds 3mg 70/30 60ml.

I use version b 1.0.2 an that runs fine, only problems I've ever had are with version 1. In fact my first alien was plagued with issues but it seems with version b to run flawlessly, I'm happy with the value and performance & I've been using this q2 coil since Saturday an it's still running fine.
If what the above two comments are saying aren't true, I don't know what is wrong. I was gonna suggest reading ohms incorrect too but you say it's fine.
Anyway... I hope you get sorted, I love mine :)

Mine definitely seems to be firing different since I updated the firmware yesterday, I guess only time will tell. If it doesn't get me anymore use I guess I can send it in for warranty but by that time it might just make sense to buy a new kit.

I used a different tag before using the baby beast that came with the kit. I was getting less life out of the other tanks coils as well with this MOD. My gut tells me its the mod and maybe it was just a bad configuration that got wiped out when I upgraded. I am on day 2 of the T8 I just put in so normally I would start to taste some form of burn by day 3.

Hope you sort it, you shouldn't lose flavour that quick :(

@Skold Well I was hopeful of the new firmware but today on day 3 with less than 300 puffs I am tasting burnt again. It is also harder to inhale. It seems the juice is building up on the wire of the coil. Does that mean I am using too high of a wattage for my juice? I know a ton of people use the juice I use so I am just trying to eliminate other things that could be causing this. It hits great for the first two days the coil doesn't get hot because I inhale pretty hard and have the air flow all the way open. I am just starting to think I have a short in my MOD or something is wrong with the tank.

An atomizer short maybe? I have run high vg through it, high pg, 50/50 etc... as long as you are in the recommended wattage settings it shouldn't burn them out within 3 days but then again I know people who only get 3-5 days out of the cleito. I get three weeks with it! So I guess you've got a defected tank or something, I'd try get a new tank like I say maybe you have an atomizer short. Normally it cuts out if it's shorted though an displays a message.
