Hello,

Brand new to here, i've searched for my issue and seen this same thing has been asked a thousand times, but i'm not 100% sure I understand so please don't mind me repeating this subject!!

I got the smok Alien 220 which comes with the TFV8 Baby about 4 weeks ago and I absolutely love it. (Not sure of terminology etc yet so cut me some slack please!) I used the Q2 coil that comes pre installed for the first while and loved it, found it difficult at first as am a smoker but am finally used to the differences. When that coil needed to be replaced I used the T8 that came in the box, and that seemed much stronger than the Q2 - I had to turn the wattage down as it felt much more powerful. Anyway I bought a pack of the Q2's yesterday as I remember that being better for me (I think, it was a couple of weeks ago now) and I started using it last night. Primed it as usual before installing, and waited a while with a full tank before starting to use it, and I am getting smoke but absolutely no flavour at all. Same liquid I was using for the past 5/6 days, best tasting one ever, so I know the liquid is fine and I know exactly how it should taste.

Any idea what's going on? I don't think I could have done something wrong, as it is working in the sense it's creating vapour, just doesn't appear to taste of anything at all. Could it be a bad coil? I am priming another one now to try just in case that helps but am a bit worried as i've loved it up until now and suddenly, without any flavour it is actually horrible! I miss the flavour that comes with the smoke, I don't just want the smoke on it's own.

Any advice would be great.

I'd say try another coil. It's possible it's bad. It's also possible that you are used to your other coil, and will need to readjust. IDK when you quit smoking, but if it is in the not-to-distant past, that you are experiencing vaper's tongue, meaning that you aren't tasting the same way as your tastebuds are used to... It can also be caused by vaping the same juice for too long without breaks, so if you have another juice to try, it might be worth your time to try that and see how it tastes.

Best of luck,

Anna

Unlike smoking cigarettes, there are many variables in vaping. We can and will give some suggestions, but trial and adjustments are up to your preferences. So.......

If you are only vaping one flavor, it could simply be an "off day" for your pallet, vapers tongue if you will. I am and always have been a fan of switching up flavors and do so 5 to 8 times each day. Even then, there are times I grab a flavor I really like, but for whatever reason, it just doesn't work for me that day/time. No biggie! I just grab another flavor and next time I go for that one that didn't work yesterday, it is wonderful today. Some suggest having some unflavored to vape for a while now and then to sort of cleanse the pallet.

As far as your coils, I don't believe I have ever had a new coil Kill all/most of the flavor. You don't mention watts used with either that may play into it. Nor do you mention how you started out with the T8 and for how long you tried it. I have settled in with the T8 in all my Beast tanks and it has been quite a while since I used any other coil. But, if memory serves me right, I ran those others at a lower wattage then I do the T8. I have to believe by "turning down" the wattage, you may have actually gone the opposite way from improving the flavor (depending on what you turned it down from and to). I take time breaking in the new T8 coils. During that time, it starts out rather blah and slowly coming into its own as wattage increases. If you replaced the Q2 with the T8 and jumped right in at the same wattage, I'm not at all surprised that you got a less then satisfying vape. But if you used and liked the Q2 coils, by all means stay with what works for you!

Just because the coils say "best at XX watts" or somebody else says you should run at "XX", doesn't mean you have to.....use it as a guide. Find your sweet spot by starting low and working your way up in wattage.

And lastly, just because I said I'd never experienced lack/loss of flavor in a new coil doesn't mean you haven't. Try another coil and if it works well, toss the "bad" one. If not a lot of difference, hang on to the "bad" one and give it another try next change. And don't be afraid to play with all those variables! That may just lead to some pleasant surprises!

I just came off a Q2 a few days ago to a T8 and its taken till just today to start getting flavor back.. As OlderNDirt said start with a lower wattage as a break in period and go from there. I also found the T8's have a lot more airflow restriction than the Q2. Keep fiddlin till you hit the sweet spot if you cant find it, try the next one. Also I've found the coil leads can protrude way too far and can cause leakage, I pop out the pin and rubber and trim the outside one flush with the bottom of the housing then put the rubber in and trim the inside flush with the rubber. Then press the pin tight against the inside lead to seat the pin. 0 leakage !

I have both 0.4 and 0.6 Ohm Q2's. There is a definite difference in flavor at the same wattage. You have to increase the wattage to get the same heat flux when going from 0.4 to 0.6.

There is also a brief break-in that might take a half tank or so before the "cotton mouth" is gone and the coil wick is really saturated through.

And then finally, just to make sure the stars are aligned against you... a touch of vaper's tongue might be at work, too.
