While sitting on my kitchen counter over night- my one month old smok m80 plus has potentially bricked itself

While sitting idle, it will display the charging screen (ie charging 59%)
No response when plugged in, will not charge
Cannot be reset
When powered off , turns back on with one button press

It is firing the atomizer at the moment, but it can not be recharged

Is there anything I can do other than ship it back to China? Disassemble, clean etc? It has never been dropped or allowed to get wet

Thanks in advance

Sounds like there is potentially something going on with the chip or other internal electrical components. If any of your local vape shops have a good trouble-shooting person, maybe take it in and have them look at it. But it sure sounds like there is something electrical going on with it, and it might have to go back to China. Have you reached out to where you bought it yet?

I don't know if this will help since the reset and charge port is not working, however, one thing I would try to do is to see if you can get a connection to reflash the ROM while you still have a little battery life remaining. You have to use another micro USB cable and download the software to even try this.

Hopefully, your vendor will take back the defective unit. If they don't, take a look at the video on the attached link. It will give you an idea on how the M80 is taken apart and how it looks on the inside.

Good luck and I hope my M80 doesn't suffer an untimely death(?) as well.

My M-50 would have all sorts of weird problems because of a short. If it is anything like the M-50/65, when you take it apart take a look at the chip bord. There should be a red and white wire going into the board and those two solder joints are right on top of each other. On mine the wires were shorting out ever so slightly touching where they go into the board. I put a beed of hot glue between them and that seems to have fixed it.

I would talk to my vendor first, they might be able to replace it. I did the same with my faulty istick 50W

So yeah,
I successfully tore this apart, and I was able to perform the reset- it is running the 0006 firmware. I was hoping it was just shorting to the frame\ box , but no. There are no signs of arcing or stresses on the boards. The soldering is tight and shiny, no clear reason of interference near the USB. Just pieces sitting in a box, and it will randomly turn on the screen and display the charging animation.

Its actually pretty funny, in a way. But still p.o.' d that its fried

Yes that was the idea! For science!!

But as luck and or demonic possession would have it, it's bare guts have returned to being unresponsive to the reset button and the USB. I took pictures, but even at my lowest resolution I can not post them. I was prepared to rehouse and even rebatt this unit - at 20 or so watts it would run for 1.5 days on chain!

I will burn some sage and enchant the necronomicon ;)

But in all seriousness, if I should get it back in to a temporary working state, should I dare plug it in to my computer? Or hold it up to my face under load?? Scary, no?!

I'm going to go ahead and add that I'm a professional technician- of 15+ years. Testing, troubleshooting and repairing computer controlled machinery is my livelihood. This thing is a turd. I'm hoping that a): google search brings a resolution to me, and Mr. Fabe & to all others who may encounter this b): other former cigarette smokers and current vapers might find this and make an informed decision with their hard earned money. Buyer beware y'all

That sucks. If the original vendor will not offer you a replacement on your defective unit, you can consider contacting Smoktech directly. According to the updated Smoktech website, the warranty is 60 days. Madvapes is handling warranty returns for the U.S.

I'm still waiting for my M80 to inevitably die 1 day after the warranty expires...

Your charge port is broken and shorted. This happens on cell phones all the time, I repair then for a living. 2 of the pins are touching making it think it's charging.

Hello fellow vapers!
I've just joined this forum to give a little hope in regards to the issues noted about the Smok M80 Plus.....
I've owned this device since May this year, worked perfectly until about 3 weeks ago. First fault was it wouldn't turn off and was displaying "charging" when no cable was attached. I could deal with this because it would still work and I could continue Vaping! Also, the reset button was useless! Then about 1 week ago, I charged it overnight (as usual) ready to vape as soon as I woke up...... My morning routine was about to crumble, the display showed "High Input" and wouldn't fire whatsoever.....
Back to my nemesis I cried....!
Having emailed the distributor I purchased it from, they were happy for me to return and repair.
BUT.....!!!!
I decided to have a little look and took to some trusty WD40...
I strategically placed a few drops onto the usb input on the device, wiped gently with some faithful kitchen roll and repeated this very technical process (only fully qualified tissue operators need apply)....

I then went about my day, breathing in more vapour than oxygen as per usual but via my nemesis mech mod and a pocket rammed full of 18650's.....

The vapour angels above visited and bish bash bosh folks....... My Smok M80 Plus was back from the dead with the youthfulness of a newly born kangaroo!
I sit here, typing this message, in a cloud of smoke, with my Smok M80, hoping that the Angels may visit all your M80's too!!
Just invite them with the sweet smell of WD40 an a bit of bog roll...!
