SMOK's bad rep is based not so much on low quality as on inconsistent quality control. i suspect that they realized the reputation they'd gotten & took steps to improve. Possibly, acquiring Wotofo made a difference.

See how you feel about your Mag & SMOK in a few months. Let us know.

They vape awesome when they work but of the 3 different models I had, the longest lasting mod made it 8 months, the other 2 in probably 3 months or less. They did have some good tanks until they went crazy and made forty-eleven more tanks, all with different coils. Give it a good run, see what happens I guess

Smok's long track record of putting out very poor mods kept me far away from their crappy products. Zero interest. None. Ever.

There was a time on ECF, not so long ago, that members were starting new threads weekly about their broken Smok mods. In each case they were told to go and purchase better quality mods.

I used to use the Smok Mag 225W, but after the third one in 18 month quit firing, I gave up on them and have avoided Smok mods ever since. I still use the Prince TFV12 that came in the kits. I have 3 RBA's and a ton of drop in coils for them.

The TFV 12 was a really decent tank. The rebuildable deck that came with it wasn't the greatest thing though. I found it to be too small for me to do much with. But the drop in coils are comparable to most other brands as far as performance goes. I don't think I still have mine, it may be around here somewhere but I don't know.

Everytime I see Smok in a thread title, I cue the Joker: And. Here. We. Go.

I have had nothing but positive results from single battery Smok mods (AL-85, G-Priv Baby, and currently a Mag Solo.) It's the dual battery mods that I'll never give another chance as they've always crapped out on me in record time.

SMOK stuff generally works OK for the first few weeks, and it’s cheap. The problem is (or was) build quality. It was truly awful. There were actually Vape shops that had to quit carrying SMOK because there were so many returns. The engineering was never bad. It was the manufacturing. If they fixed that there’s probably nothing wrong with it.

If they fixed that there’s probably nothing wrong with it. There are a few points still relevant though. People used to at least buy vapes to stop smoking. That rarely took more than a year. There’s a pretty decent chance a SMOK mod even if they still have problems like partial solder joints and stuff. What that does me man though is you don’t want to buy one used, because even if the vaper only used it for a few weeks most of it’s working life may be gone. There are a few people such as myself that still vape years after starting. People like that shouldn’t buy SMOK at all if their build quality is still awful.

I always think about what @sonicbomb said. Sorry Guy.

"Smok mods over the last few years are a primarily targeted at specific audience. Flashy lights, garish colors and short attention spans, those who don't care that a mod only lasts 6 months so they can go out and buy another flashier mod with even more LEDs and pointless features. Flakey paint and terrible QC are consequential of their carpet bombing marketing strategy. It must be a successful business model because they have shifted millions of units."

Your tune will change when it stops working. Often in weeks. Some people have had them last as long as a regular mod, but very few. Perhaps they have improved their build quality in which case the things are ok. Time will tell.

    Oh it was before that
My general dislike for Smok came from my OG vaping days. My brother bought me one of their mods, I think the Alien back when it came out. Within weeks the paint pretty much removed itself from the mod, which was probably caused by the Smok tank I had on top constantly leaking juice all over the mod, lol.
Oh it was before that. In the early days smok stuff was decent. The change may have come about the same time regulated mods became a thing. So really long ago (like back the aughts) they were OK. I actually had a smok device back then. It was a pipe though which got famous for being dangerous eventually. It had a button that was easy to hit and no vents at all. The case was airtight. It was the one I melted a battery in. Tight jeans and a big button. I actually saw one years later (but still long ago) in a store with a “not for sale! This thing is dangerous!” placard. The changing tech introduced something craptacular into their systems though. Maybe they have gotten better again. Like I said, there was nothing wrong with their engineering. It was the manufacturing that was jaw droppingly bad. Maybe they fixed things. It was fixable. I don’t know if they did or not though.

Smok is the only Mod that I ever had the outside finish start peeling. They have a rep for inconsistent quality. Won't touch Smok.

My favorites is Joyetech for reliability. 3 mods by them and all worked until I got tired of them.

Getting back into vaping so far I'm impressed by Geekvape Aegis AP2. But it's for 50mg (5%) Salt Nic vaping
Not a high wattage device. So most of you won't be interested, but if you are looking for small form factor (Stealth Vaping) reliable flavorful coils. A Large Pod 4.5ml, decent battery 900mah it can't be beat and I've looked at everything. A great starter or alternative to the Juul type pods.
