Short vs Long stem replacement bottom coil heads.

Hi - newbie here. 1st post.

Can somebody please make the distinction between the long stem and the short stem replacement bottom coils, if indeed the two classifications exist.

If they do, and I believe this to be true, I don't think they are interchangeable.

So how does one know the correct type to order? Simply going by a picture is risky, at best.

What are their specs, their "call letters", compatibilities, etc.?

Thanks for any clarification you can offer.

Sorry for the time delay - family matters...
I'm not talking about wicks, I'm asking about which tanks use the long stems, and how to differentiate them from the short stems so as not to order the wrong replacement coils. I myself use, and have ordered, the short stems. Here is an ad that addresses short stems, (even though "short" is not specifically stated):
BRAND NEW Pack of 3 eGo 510 Thread Bottom Coils, fits most Bottom Coil Design Atomizer Tanks such as the GS-H2 & H5, mini Protank, Protank2 & 3 and other Bottom Coil Atomizer Tanks. Resistance: 2.0ohm.
The key words here are "most" and "other".
My friend has a long stem tank, and she would like to order replacement coils. Herein lies the problem - how?
There should be some spec that separates the two types for the layman without having to know any specifics.
Does such an animal exist?
p.s. (She doesn't know what kind her tank is, for myself, I THINK it's an MT3).

Hi fwala and welcome to ECF! I wish I could help, but I'm a noob and have no experience with those BCC's. Have you been to your local B&M store? They'd surely know. I use the Evod BCC's and order genuine Kanger 2.2 replacement coils for them and have never seen an option for short or long. However, I might add that these 2.2 coil units are replacements for Protank, Evod, and Unitanks. Someone will be along and will know exactly what you need. You came to the right place. Good luck! :)

In my experience, short or long wicks will both fit in the tank, as long as it is made for that tank.

A more important distinction is the resistance of the coils in the wicks.

Also, using multi tank style wicks will often lead to flooding. Not always, but it's a risk.

Basically, in laymans terms, if it screws in, and the tank fits after, you should be good to go.

If it doesn't fot, short or long stem won't matter.

I have used both types in all my tanks in my clearo days.

Should be good to go for you :)

A few thoughts that may or may not help if you are talking Kanger tanks:

Single coil heads for Kanger tanks (2 varieties):
1) Evod/Protank 2/Protank 2 Mini (first edition) have shorter chimneys.
2) T3S/MT3S/Unitank have taller chimneys.
These are generally not interchangeable, although I have heard of the T3S/MT3S/Unitank coils being used in the Evod (I have never tried this, though).

Dual coil heads:
The Protank 3/Protank 3 Mini/Aerotanks/Evod 2/Evod Glass/T3D use a dual coil head with a tall chimney. For the new Aerotanks (mini and mega) Kanger has redesigned the head, but it seems that they should be backward compatible with all of the tanks listed here.

Some of the dual coil tanks can use a single coil head:
1) Protank 3 Mini can use the T3S/MT3S single coil head without modification (I have personally tested this). It is possible that the same holds true for the Protank 3 and or Aerotanks, but I cannot be certain.
2) Another forum member has used the base of the Protank 2 Mini with the Evod Glass in order to utilize an Evod single-coil head. This is also likely to work on Evod 2's.

Hope this helps...

Can you tell me if this also holds true with the MT3 tanks? I am COMPLETELY new to this and have no idea what coils to buy lol
