Hi ECF, long time reader, first time poster…Recently I developed a weird rough patch inside my cheek, only on the left side of my mouth. Felt odd when touched with my tongue, a tad sensitive but didn't hurt or bleed. Skipping to the end, I decided it might be vape related, so I quit for 24 hours, and the patch basically went away.

A little googling found some reports of PG contact allergies in mouth, and the first solution is to switch to pure VG liquid.

Background: After vaping standard (i.e. not the new "high VG" version) Halo Turkish Tobacco at 6mg-18mg nicotine for about 3 years, (without any similar problem) I recently started mixing my own liquid, which seems like the likely cause. My current DIY juice is a mix of two bottles from Nude Nicotine, probably averaging about 9mg nicotine and 60% PG/40% VG. I'm mixing the juice with flavors from The Flavor Apprentice (most recently 5% RY4 and 5% Black Honey tobacco).

So I'm going to vape 100% VG for a while and see what happens. However, I wanted to know if anyone had a similar "rough patch" reaction to high PG liquid, or even medium PG liquid, and if VG solved it. Thanks!

Well, I switched to 100% VG, 3mg nicotine from Nude Nicotine, plus 10% RY4 Double flavor from The Flavor Apprentice. Rough patch kind of came back, but not as bad. Now I'm trying no flavor to see if it's the flavor that's causing it. Will also buy some Biotene mouthwash and try that.

Good for you!! You may get this resolved and still be able to enjoy vaping. Keep us posted...:)

Rough patch returned, so I ordered a couple bottles of my old (real expensive) go-to, Halo Turkish tobacco at 12mg. Rough patch went away in a day or two, virtually gone now. So I think Nude Nicotine's liquid doesn't suit me.

Can anyone recommend a different bulk liquid supplier? Ideally I'd hear from someone who had a similar problem with N.N. or a similar supplier and found some liquid that didn't cause problems. Thanks!

Wonder IF it's the Biotene helping at all?

According to many forums dealing with Sleep Apnea, BioTene long ago took out the main ingredient that once made it a great product. I cant speak from experience as I have never used it, but have read much from people that breathe with their mouths open, the cavities and decay that can take place in time and why Biotene no longer works for those people.

I am not capable of discussing what it was, or if they are right but something to consider and/or look into further.

    Are you fair skinned?

Have had numerous dry patches on my skin (37? ) that later developed into a form of forms of skin cancer, although this particular type is not malignant but simply needs to be quickly frozen off by ones dermatologist. I would suggest such a visit and have him take a peek at it. No reason why it could not take place inside the mouth I would presume.

NOT to say that this is what it is, but there is a possibility it might be especially if fair skinned and/or have spent a lot of time in the sun. Either way, worth checking out.

None of the dry patches are disfiguring. But can become so if left undiagnosed and treated. They usually either freeze them off quickly and that's the end of it. For some that might be on the face, forehead, etc, freezing them can leave the area lighter than the rest of the skin. At such times, minor sugery and stitched with a plastic surgeon is the answer. I had one on my forehead treated that way and you can't see anything.

Admittedly I do have great health care insurance, all covered and understand that not everyone is as fortunate.

Thanks Gazoo. The Biotene does help, but — for me anyway — it isn't a full solution. And no, I'm not a mouth breather and I don't have fair skin. Given that my dry patch problem disappeared when I stopped vaping, I assume it's vaping-related and not skin cancer inside my mouth. I never had this problem before I started doing DIY liquid from Nude Nicotine. Using my old Halo Turkish tobacco liquid does not cause the dry patches.

Good. In your case it probably is to to vaping then. Often gut feeling is correct.

Mine was then different from yours. I had no idea what it was and ignored it. Luckily it wasn't serious but I no longer ignore anything out of the ordinary.
I was fortunate to catch a tiny new very dark freckle, I likely would have ignored had it not been for the earlier patch. I caught it in the earliest stages. It was pre melanoma.

I am watched carefully and full body scanned every 3 months so when I hear someone mention a *patch* I always just want to mention the possibility.
At which point, they will instinctively know if it is something to worry about, or as in your case, not.

I am just discovering reactions to VG, like many vapers and have to experiment with percentages to see what will work better.

I just wish vape forums were a bit more receptive to discussions amongst ourselves about these oddities that show up.
It could either help others and/or free one from stress not knowing what something might be.

    Ciao

Quick update: After about 2, maybe 3, weeks using just Halo Turkish at 12mg nicotine, rough patch problem has totally gone away. I don't use or need the Biotene anymore. Waiting for some 100% VG liquid from Wizard Labs to try DIY again.
Glad to hear it. I vape Nude Nicotine nic base unflavored, abut 2 ml a day, was doing 70pg/30vg at 18 and 24 mg, now doing it at 85pg/15 vg, and haven't had any issues, just letting you know.
