Why did I buy it?
To be honest, there was no really good reason! I visited our local vape lounge/shop - Social vaping - in Stafford and Mike, the owner, told me they had their first "Cloud Chasing" atomiser in stock. Mike's stock is pretty mainstream (although he does sell eFest and Torchy batteries for example) and he has always made me very welcome, provided cups of coffee and chats and the occasional sample of juice, despite me scarcely being a "good customer". Mike is VERY insistent that all his stock is authentic and he will not sell clones - so, although it cost me more than iT would have on-line (I do understand that retail premises have overheads!) I lashed out and bought this atomiser...
What did I get?
The atomiser came in a shrink wrapped box:
Which, when opened, contained:
The "spares bag" contains spare o-rings, screws and a tool for use with the screws:
The base/deck of the atomiser is serialised:
And the deck has poles with nice big holes and a "twin hole" centre-post. The juice wells are decently deep:
Here is the top cap and airflow control shows the air holes and logo:
Here is a view up the inside of the top cap showing how the slanted cut-outs in the top cap expose the holes in the airflow control section:
Here are the airflow control and the top cap shown separated - as you can see, the set-up provides for single and dual coil builds:
The Mutation comes with a nice big-bore drip tip:
Here the the fully assembled atomiser (apologies for the drip tip being wonky
)
Building the Mutation X V2
The Mutation's screws have a triangular hole in them (WHY???) and an appropriate tool is provide for you to use (and lose and get annoyed about):
I built two coils of twisted kanthal and installed them in the atomiser. This proved to be an easy process:
The coils measured out a a combined 0.32 ohms and seemed to heat up nicely (yes I do know one coil as one more turn than the other - I'm an idiot!)
I then wicked it all up with Japanese cotton:
Using the Mutation X V2
Here it is on my Super T ELA (version 1 with a Satburn switch fitted) containing a freshly charged "big green Sony":
I tried it out with 6mg tobacco liquid... "Wide open", lung inhales produced large clouds with decent flavour. With the flow tightened up to about minimum, a fairly decent mouth to lung vape proved possible - not as good as something like a Luxe or RSM Dripper for this, but perfectly usable...
So - this is a very good value for money "cloud" atomiser which can also be used for "normal vaping" by those seeking versatility.
