Hello everyone, Pizza Dave here, delivering you a review of the Ultex T80 kit by joyetech. This device is a stick styled device that has 80w of power, temp control, powered by a single 18650, and includes a “coil-less” atomizer. It is a straight forward device that includes a tank with a coil system I haven’t seen yet. Let’s dive down, take a peak at how this works, and as always, I will see you down at the bottom for my final thoughts.

FEATURES
The Ultex T80 is a stick styled mod, operating off a single 18650 which is inserted through a threaded bottom cap. The threads suck, and there aren’t enough of them. This mod runs from 1-80 in wattage mode, but also has some temperature control settings and a bypass mode. Like most mods on the market, this device also includes all the safety protections we have come to expect. The tank that is included is innovative with a “coil-less” design. They are right with not calling it a coil, as it really isn’t, but rather it has a flat heating element. This is re-wick able, and the coil can be changed out when the time comes, which seems like quick a ways down the road.

OPERATION
This device features a small screen down at the bottom for easy navigation. 5 clicks on, 5 clicks off, 3 clicks to enter the menu. Yeah, just like most mods we see. The up and down buttons adjust the wattage. From 1-20w it scrolls in .1 increments, and 20-80 scrolls in 1-watt increments, so I give them a pro on that. To change the mode of the device you will click the fire button 3 times. From that point you just scroll using the up and down buttons. The modes are as follows.
I didn’t use this in temperature control much at all, so I can’t give good insight on how well it works. What I do know is 4 clicks of the fire button will open the preheat wattage for TC. If you want to lock the adjustment buttons, hold the up and down buttons simultaneously.
It is an easy mod to pick up and use. I don’t see too many people being confused by the operation which makes it a good option for a starter kit.

HOW IT VAPES
This is always the million-dollar question isn’t it? I love the ergonomics of the device, and I also love the styling. I mostly used it with the Cubis Max tank during review and I cover how that vapes in the section below. However, since it is a stick style device, it seemed like I should put an RDA on top. I tried it with a few different ones before settling on a Wotofo Warrior, just because it fit on there so dang good. I started off chain vaping slightly at 75w, the whole top got very warm. I continued, just to push the limits a bit and voila, it stopped working and showed a device hot message. I waited a bit for a cool down and continued on. It took quite a bit of abuse to get it to shut down, but it is worth noting. It doesn’t have any issues when running the Cubis tank, but I must point it the issue with higher wattage because many may want to run it that way. Granted, I did chain vape it hard, but I do that with a lot of devices, and I don’t see this problem.

CUBIS MAX TANK REVIEW
If you asked me day one how it vapes, I would tell you that it’s awful. My first time using it, it flooded, and I drank a ton of juice on the 3rd inhale. I found that the cotton that was preinstalled was too thin for the job and didn’t hold out excess from pouring into the chimney. I added another layer or two of cotton, and it started to work like it should. I ran this thing at 40-42w all the time and it kept up just fine. I didn’t have wicking issues beyond that first try, so I can say that the system is functional. However, I feel that the flavor is a bit muted. It just doesn’t taste quite right. I tried running it a bit hotter, but that led to dry hits. I played with air flow and just couldn’t get it to pop. One big pro to this tank comes with the coil system. I wanted to change up flavors after 6 tanks of the same old thing. I took the bottom off, pulled the cotton and placed it back on my mod. I heated it up to clean up the very slight amount of charred on liquid and tossed it in my ultrasonic clear. After it dried, I put some more cotton in, and kept on vaping. This coil system is not the most user friendly since it requires patience to change out cotton in this fashion and it is all very intricate work. The coils require tools to change, the cotton needs to be just right, and it takes some time. I can rebuild and rewick an RTA faster than changing coils on this, so I just don’t think it’s the best design out there. Joyetech has run some extensive tests on this coil and apparently the thing will last months. Only time will tell, but it is impressive if it really does hold out that long.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Is this the worst starter kit out there? No. Is it the best? No. I like what they are trying to do with this device, as it has a lot of good going on, but there are plenty of cons to maybe make one steer clear of it. The first con is a bit minor, as it took some pushing to get it to happen, and that was the hot device faults when I ripped it a ton with a rda. Another con is the battery door. The threads are shallow and course, and it just doesn’t grab on smoothly. The tank has its share of cons I listed above, and since it is a kit, those jump out in a big way. However, this kit isn’t all just a fail. The coils last quite a while, and with some patience, it makes for a cheap device to work as it can be cleaned up and re-wicked. I love how it feels in hand and love the color options they have. I commend Joyetech for doing something innovative with the tank, but it is a tough device to place in the market. There are some other stick style devices that perform better and have a less complicated design. Many times, these are used by beginners, so simple is better more times than not.

REVIEW CRITERIA: I use each item for about two weeks to ensure I have collected enough data to adequately write a review. I use the same e liquid in tanks or rdas throughout all my reviews to ensure that I am comparing apples to apples between all modern equipment. I do not post reviews until I feel confident that I have used it enough to give an educated review. The reason I started doing reviews was due to poor purchasing decisions in my vaping infancy about two years ago. Back then, I purchased several different pieces of hardware without really enjoying it and I hope my reviews can guide people into spending their hard-earned money more wisely than I did! ****Keep in mind that some items I receive may be pre-release and not in retail packaging. Quality may be less than the finished product and what is in the package may differ from the retail package as well.
