Hello Everyone and welcome to Pizza Dave’s Vape reviews and today I will be going over the Adept Zlide kit by Innokin. This devices, designed by P. Busardo and the vaping Greek, is a simple pairing with new users in mind. It has basic display features, “smart wattage” settings, and comes in a dustproof, shockproof, and waterproof body. To make it a complete package, they topped it with one of my personal favorite MTL atomizers, the Zlide tank. Let’s get right to it eh?

Disclaimer: This device was sent to me by Innokin for review.

MOD OVERVIEW

Like I mentioned above, this device is simple and easy to operate. It doesn’t have a full-on display, but rather indicates everything with LEDs on the face. The mod overall is toted as waterproof, shockproof, and dustproof. I wouldn’t put this in the same category as an Aegis device, but it does appear to be sealed up rather well and could withstand quite a bit of abuse. This features a 3000mah built in battery and is charged via micro-usb. I wish it was USB-C, but it is what it is. It still charges up at a quick pace, and the battery lasts for what feels like an eternity.

OPERATION

P. Busardo and the Vaping Greek have always been in favor of devices for beginners. We all have to start somewhere, and for the most part, the market is saturated with the one thing that is good for beginners, pod systems. With that in mind, the Adept features two buttons and no confusing display. Pressing the fire button 3 times will turn the device on and off. This also has what Innokin is calling “smart-wattage”. At first, this is kind of confusing, as the minimalistic display left me guessing, until I reverted to the manual and did more digging. First off, there is a logo at the bottom of the level indicators. A left arrow bracket, and a right arrow bracket. If the arrow faces left, it is greater than 1 ohm. If the arrow faces right, it is less than 1 ohm. From that point, you can refer to the manual, or the bottom of the device, as it shows what each of the LEDs mean.

GREATER THAN 1-OHM LESS THAN 1-OHM

14w 17w

13w 16w

12w 15w

11w 14w

This device also features a battery indication LED right above these bars. It stays illuminated for about 2 seconds after a puff, so there is a little bit of time to see where the battery is at.

BATTERY INDICATION – as indicated in the manual

  • RED – 0-20%
  • YELLOW – 20-40%
  • GREEN – 60-100%

Notice, there is a gap in the battery indication here, with nothing from 40-60. They have some obvious typos, so I am assuming that this battery indication is the same as most. Red is the bottom third, Yellow is the middle third, and green is the top third. I found that it takes FOREVER to get to red when using this daily. It seems to be green for a longer period than yellow, but even once I got to yellow, I was able to get a ton of puffs on it until it went red. I vaped for about 20 puffs on red before it was low and was time to charge.

Charging is done at the base of this mod and is covered by a rubber plug to keep water and dust out. I am not a fan of the location at all, as it must either lay on its side or be propped up somehow to charge. The plug can also be finicky to pull out if you don’t have fingernails. I can see this being a con for an older generation using this device. Thankfully, charging cycles are spread out thanks to the large 3000mah battery, and the charging cycle is rather quick. I lost track each time I charged, but it appeared to be just a little over an hour.

ZLIDE TANK REVIEW

I am not really going to get too deep into the Zlide tank. I posted a stand-alone review of this tank when it came out. It is one of my favorite MTL atomizers period, and I still use the sample I received months ago on a regular basis. When It comes to how it pairs on this device, I found the 1.6-ohm coil to be much more enjoyable than the .4-ohm. It just felt right and worked well with the output provided. It also looks great on top, even though the Adept has clearance for a couple more mm of space. I believe this is there because the Zlide is going to be coming out in a 24mm version soon, which will look even better on top.

HOW IT VAPES / FINAL THOUGHTS

Alright, so how does this setup work? Overall, I found that the Adept and the Zlide make for a solid pairing. I have already gushed in the past about how much I enjoy the Zlide, so seeing it paired up with a mod makes a lot of sense. With the 1.6-ohm coil, I really enjoyed the vape that I got from this kit. I felt like the .4-ohm just didn’t do it for me with flavor and warmth, but at least there is a wide variety of Z-coils to find just the vape you want. The Adept device itself is pretty neat, but it has a lot of issues as well. I will start out with what I like. First off, I think it is a great looking device. Textures, the metals, the buttons, all come together to make a nice feeling, and nice-looking mod. The display is bright, and it is easy to use too. Another perk to this mod is the 3000mah battery. It lasts forever, even when running on the max 17w output. I enjoy using this and it has a lot of good going for it. However, there are a few things that kind of irk my on this one. The bottom USB port is one I mentioned above. I found that to be annoying, and not well planned. Other than that, this device is really only good when paired with a tank like this. There just aren’t that many tanks out there that work in these select wattage ranges. I attempted to use some MTL RTAs on here, and I need a good 10 more watts if they were going to be compatible on this. It works great as a kit, and would work find with a Zenith tank, but it is kind of a one trick pony with not much versatility on the market. I could care less that they are advertising this as a shockproof, waterproof, dustproof mod. It is NOTHING like an Aegis, or the new Wismec one. I could see someone buying this on accident for a tough mod, and not knowing what it is. They would be super depressed when they find that it only goes up to 17w.

With all of rambling being said, where do I see this on the market? Honestly, I am not sure. It is obviously designed to take a chunk of the pod system market, but it isn’t as pocket friendly as them. It is something that requires a specific user base, one that likes a better built device, isn’t concerned about size, and likes a coil/tank setup over pods. While this is a great looking, quality feeling device, I don’t know right now if it is something, I can see myself using long term. I am sitting at 50/50 as far as recommendations go.

OVEN TEST

If I this were to accidentally fall into my pizza oven would I go out and get another? No..I could pass on this one.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PROS

  • Combination vapes well
  • Tons of battery life
  • Simple to use
  • Looks great, and has some nice color combos
  • Z-coil compatibility
  • Charges quickly

CONS

  • Micro-USB is a point of failure (would have liked to see USB-C)
  • Mod is limited on what it is compatible with
  • At first, the settings aren’t clear until the manual is read
  • Battery indication should have been 4 stage and more accurate
  • Silly, but the resin drip tip doesn't match at all.

REVIEW CRITERIA: I use each item for about two weeks to ensure I have collected enough data to adequately write a review. I use the same e liquid in tanks or rdas throughout all my reviews to ensure that I am comparing apples to apples between all modern equipment. I do not post reviews until I feel confident that I have used it enough to give an educated review. The reason I started doing reviews was due to poor purchasing decisions in my vaping infancy about two years ago. Back then, I purchased several different pieces of hardware without really enjoying it and I hope my reviews can guide people into spending their hard-earned money more wisely than I did! ****Keep in mind that some items I receive may be pre-release and not in retail packaging. Quality may be less than the finished product and what is in the package may differ from the retail package as well.
