I have some of both, but prefer syringes as I think they are more accurate. I have noticed, with the plastic syringes, that they can wear out or get stuck, not move smoothly after several uses. Pipettes are good for VG, with syringes you need a wide gauge needle or else you need to remove the needle entirely.

I have a collection of 1 ml, 3 ml, and 5 ml plastic syringes. And one 10 mil syringe. Also have four 1 ml and four 3 ml pipettes, which I have marked so I can read the numbers better.

What is your preference?

I mostly use syringes. I pour the liquid into the syringe with the plunger out and my finger over the opening. I move the opening over my bottle and take my finger off. Then I put the plunger in to get all the liquid out since it would take forever to just drip out.

BINGO! That's my method also.

BTW, I use 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20 ml syringes sans needles for my smaller (5 - 30 ml) batches.

Right, the size of syringe I use depends on the volume of liquid I'm dispensing. I use a small syringe for small amounts of liquid on up to the 20 ml ones when I need larger amounts. Sometimes, if only one liquid is going to require a larger amount, instead of dirtying up the large syringe, I'll just divide the volume in half and dispense 2x from a smaller syringe.

I have some borrowed micropipettors that I'm using for tiny amounts, but if I didn't have those I'd use a calibrated dropper (I.e. see how many drops it takes for a ml, then calculate how many micro liters each drop is).
