I’m very pleased to be back with you so soon with another review for OXVA. This time I was sent the Oxva Origin SE pod mod by Oxva in order to provide a fair and honest review. I just came off the review for the Xlim V2 and liked it very much so I’m really hoping this is going to be another great one. The SE has a logo so to speak of Small Body, Big Cloud. It has a 1400mah internal battery with 2A fast charging that will charge to 80% in just 30 minutes. It has a power range of 5-40 watts which I think is very good for a device of this size. It has adjustable airflow, a liquid capacity of 3.5ml, and uses the familiar Unicoils. Sounds pretty good right? Well, let’s take a look at some information first then I’ll tell you my thoughts on it.

INITIAL THOUGHTS:
The packaging for the Origin SE is a simple slide out tray inside the very nice looking outer cover. On the front are the Oxva and Origin SE names printed on a blue background along with a picture of an Origin SE. However, this isn’t necessarily the one inside the box. If you look in the lower corner you’ll see a sticker indicating that the device inside is actually matte black.
The back side of the back is a brief description of the SE along with a list of contents, Oxva company information, and a scratch and check authenticity label.
On one side of the box is the name of the designer who is Justin Lai. If you’ve seen other items from Oxva then you’ve probably seen his name before. It has been on each sample I’ve received for review. On the opposite side are four of the main features of the device listed with an icon for each.
Once the tray is slid out from the outer shell then the SE is visible along with an accessory box on one side. As you can see in the picture below, I received the matte black version. I was really hoping for one of the gradient ones but I believe review samples are sent out randomly without choosing colors.
The SE comes with the 3.5ml pod on the mod and the .3 ohm Unicoil is already installed in the pod. However, there is a safety seal over the bottom of the coil and pod so that it isn’t accidentally fired before filling the pod with liquid. On the seal is the writing “airflow direction for auto draw” and the words “Tear it off”. I should have paid more attention to this sticker. I will explain more later.
The bottom of the pod has two magnets that hold the pod securely in place. There are not electrical contacts like we see on many pods because this one uses replaceable coils with an airflow control ring that makes contact with the mod electrical contacts. The pod meets up with the two spring loaded gold plated contacts in the pod opening on the mod. It is held in place by the two magnets. The oval shaped black rubber is where the airflow sensor is located. It faces the pod and that is where the airflow ring directs the airflow to activate it.
I told you I would explain this earlier so here I go. The sticker on the bottom of the coil and pod is trying to tell you that the airflow opening on the control ring needs to be pointed in that direction. Don’t be a dummy like me and not pay attention. There is even a small picture in the owner’s manual that shows how it must be inserted for the auto draw to work correctly. I had left the owner’s manual at work and ended up sending my rep a message that the auto draw wasn’t working correctly. She sent me the pictures that I’m going to show you and it worked perfectly after that. As a matter of fact, I was surprised how well it worked with the airflow open completely and vaping DL. So, the moral of the story is don’t be a dummy like me and pay attention to the literature. The first picture is actually the one that is in the manual. In all fairness, I think this is the first device I’ve seen where the airflow sensor is horizontal instead of vertical in the pod opening. Really it’s a great design by Oxva.
The pod itself is somewhat tinted which can make viewing the liquid level slightly difficult if you aren’t in good lighting. The drip tip is a standard 510 drip tip which you can replace with your favorite one if you like. The coils are simply pushed into the pod once the airflow control ring is attached to the coil.
In the picture below you can see the mesh .3 ohm coil through the drip tip opening on the pod. This coil placement being so close to the drip tip makes for a really warm and flavorful vapor using the .3 ohm coil. I found that if I chain vaped for very long that it got hot enough that is was slightly uncomfortable. However, I don’t really like a hot vapor where others might. Either way, it performs very well as long as I don’t get carried away chain vaping.
The pod is filled through a side fill port that has the usual rubber plug used on many pods. However, this one can be rotated out of the way for filling which I like. If I have to deal with a plug then I want to be able to move it out of the way so I can fill the pod. The fill port opening is fairly large and should accommodate most bottles for filling. The Oxva X is molded onto the fill plug.
The Origin SE kit comes with the .3 ohm mesh Unicoil rated at 30-40 watts that I have already mentioned but also comes with a .5 ohm Unicoil rated for 20-25 watts. It isn’t included but there is also a 1.0 ohm coil available that is rated for 10-15 watts.
Now let’s take a look at the Origin SE mod itself. It does not have a display screen but does have Adaptive Matching Output Power. It also offers three different output ranges. The SE has an internal battery capacity of 1400mah and has an output range of 5-40 watts. The SE has minimal branding. On one side is the Oxva name and Origin SE on the front where the fire button is located.
It’s not only a fire button but has a couple other important functions like allowing you to change between three different power levels thanks to the Photon Chip and its Adaptive Matching Output Power function. It senses the coil resistance and gives you three available output levels inside that particular range. Pretty impressive for a pod mod right?
- Press the fire button 5X to turn the SE on/off
- Press the fire button 3X to change the output level and one, two, or three lights on the front will illuminate depending on the output level chosen.
- Press the fire button 4X to lock/unlock the fire button
I didn’t see in the manual what the actual three ranges of wattage were for the three different coils so I asked my contact at Oxva and she was nice enough to provide the following chart.
The three lights on the front not only indicate the output level but also illuminate when you take a puff and depending on the charge level of the battery will indicate how much battery is left depending on the color. The battery indication is as follows.
- Green = 65-100%
- Blue = 30-65%
- Red = 0-30%
The Origin Se also uses the three lights to indicate other features as well.
- Vape over 8 seconds = 3 blue lights flash 3 times and stops working
- High Temp = 3 red lights flash 5 times and stops working
- Low Battery = 1 red light flashes 10 times
- Short circuit = 3 red lights flash 3 times
The USB-C charging port is located on the bottom of the SE which is as good a place as any. With the 2A charging rate, you can charge 80% of the battery in just 30 minutes.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
I have to hand it to Oxva. When they put out a new device, they put out a good one. Not long ago I reviewed the Xlim V2 and was thoroughly impressed with it. The Origin SE has also impressed me. For such a small device to have a nice sized battery at 1400mah and be packed with functions is really nice. It’s small enough that I was able to comfortably carry it in my front shirt pocket at work. The “Small body, Big Cloud” logo is definitely correct.
As I mentioned earlier, be sure to pay attention to facing the airflow opening on the control ring facing the airflow sensor when inserting the coil with the ring attached. Also, keep track of the ring. It threads onto the coils and you need to use it again each time you change a coil. It might have been nice if an extra one was included.
Both the .3 and .5 ohm Unicoils performed very well. Both gave a very flavorful vapor production while the .3 ohm coil of course produced a bit more vapor due to the higher wattage range. However, with only a 2-3 watt difference between the ranges on the .3 ohm coil, I found it a little too warm for my personal tastes and if I chain vaped then the tip actually got hot. The flavor production was very good but just a little too warm. I would have liked to see the low range for this coil closer to 30 watts or if there was more airflow available then I feel like I would have done better with it. The .5 ohm coil on the highest range was a better fit for me. Still a very flavorful vapor but not near as warm. These are just my personal preferences. I know some people like a warmer vapor.
So, would I recommend the Oxva Origin SE for you? To me there’s really nothing to not like about this pod mod besides I wish there was a little more airflow available for the .3 ohm Unicoil. It has adjustable airflow, 1400mah battery, fast charging, three available power levels for each different coil, a replaceable drip tip, auto draw and manual operation, and it looks nice too. I guess if I could change one thing it would be to make the pod top fill. Anyway, if you’re looking for a great pod mod then this one should be on your list to consider.
I’d like to thank Oxva for sending the Origin SE pod mod for this review. Also a special thanks to Jocelyn for helping me out with some details and my inability to read the manual properly. As always, thanks goes out to the readers. You made it to the end of another one of my reviews. Below is a link to the Oxva website where you can check out the Origin SE and some other really great products.
