I do know that Protected (sometimes a P before the number) were not recommended for sub ohms nor recommended for low resistance 1 ohms to 1.9 ohms vaping.
I think they have a protective coating that helps with any battery ex- or imploding should that happen. BUT IMR or Hi drain types are recommended for sub or low ohms vaping because they put out sufficient power for such. They are know as "safe chemistry" so if anything goes south, it won't cause damage.

It sounds like you have an Orbtronic (Panasonic inside) NCR18650PD or NCR18650PF battery. They are available in both protected and unprotected form. These are IMR/hybrid batteries. Safe-chemistry and high-drain. 10 amp continuous discharge rating.

If they didn't have a protection circuit on board you could use them with any mod. However, as anumber1 stated, protected batteries often do not play well with the protection circuitry of regulated mods. You could use these in a mechanical mod as long as you don't surpass the battery's amp limit.
