Hi,

new guy here. Is there a non-usb charging vape out there? I have had many vapes. I have dropped a couple and broke them, but most of the time the micro usb charging port seems to go faulty after a time. I end up having to carefully fiddle with it to get it to charge. It's really annoying!!

Check this soldering iron out:-

TS80 Digital Soldering Iron

on Amazon for example

this uses a 3.5 audio jack type charging solution and I think this would be much more durable as this connector is actually made to be plugged in and out repeatedly. I don't think the micro usb connector was built with this kind of thing in mind.

Any ideas??

I would get a vape with removable batteries and a charger. The USB should really only be used for updates because of the very reason you mentioned. Changing through the USB can easily mess up the port. Get yourself a nice mod, some batteries and a charger and you're good to go.

A mod is the part of the device that holds the battery. The atomizer sits atop it. There are approximately a gazillion of them out there. If you specify what you're looking for (for example, one battery? two? box shaped? tubular? lots of power? not? etc.), you will get recommendations, I have no doubt.

okay - so I don't want to spend a fortune (I just drop them and break them) so around £30 - 40 max.

I don't really like the huge box type ones, but I also don't like the really thin tube designs. So that leaves a thick tube type. I'm not trying to make huge clouds, I am doing this to stop smoking cigarettes so massive power isn't really an issue, but I want something that is reasonably satisfying.
And again, something that doesn't have a usb charging solution or something with a removable battery seems like it could also work.

Hopefully, I get a few recommends.

You are sure to get lots of suggestions, and I will leave that to my betters. Although if your budget were a little more accommodating, I'd absolutely recommend the JAC Vapour Series-B DNA 75W Sandstorm. It's the shape you want and takes a single 18650 battery, and the 75 watts would likely be enough for you. It also wouldn't break if you dropped it, although the battery door might fly off (it's held in place by strong magnets, but a fall at the right angle might make them let go).

Hi and welcome,
Which "vapes" have you owned/used that broke?
How long did you smoke and how many per day?
Where are you located?

Cheers

What I origionally read about here, tried, and found to be really pretty useful, are these
$3.38 (Free Shipping) Elough E360 Micro-USB to USB 2.0 Magnetic Charging Cable (100cm) (E360, Silver, 100cm) at m.FastTech.com

They’re cheap, they work, and if you kick your cable or something the thing just breaks away and your mod doesn’t go flying off the table. The idea is you leave the little magnetic bit IN the port and just connect and disconnect with the magnetic bit. It’s power only, though there are versions that do data too. The only issue is it sticks out of the device, which depending on the particular mod can be an issue. I put one on a releaux2/3 and it really stuck out too far. As it happened the thing also needed a silicone case, and after adding the case and carving it a bit the port connector snuggled in nicely.

The Aegis 100W is a thick tube style with removable battery.

The Aegis 100W TC mod that I bought from below...is a box mod. It is waterproof, shockproof, and dustproof, and has an excellent reputation for being very tough. I've got the Silver/Brown one.

amp3rsand, first of all do you have a tank or tanks available?

But for mod suggestions, possibly Vandy Vape Jackaroo even though it's a little over what you would like to spend. It's another hard wearing mod that will take some punishment.

And cheap option, Smoant Battlestar Mini. Solid zinc alloy construction, so should survive harsh treatment somewhat.

If you get them from Fasttech or other Chinese webstores you can save yourself a reasonable amount of money and if you use the e-packet shipping option, shipping is free. It just takes a while to get to you.

Thanks for your replies!

Ansie - What is a 'mod'? also, can you recommend anything? A link would be great.

Shawn - can you post a link? or something I can search against please?

Thanks guys.

All of the USB type C devices and wireless charging devices I know of are box mods and therefore out of the running per the second quote.

However, in your second quote, you said removable battery tube...

Google the following devices:
  • UWell Nunchaku
  • Ijoy Saber (20700)
  • Digiflavor Helix
  • Tesla Punk 86
  • Ehpro Mod101
  • Mod 101 Pro (20700)
These are all tube mods that take removable batteries. Most are within your price range, I think.

If you're seriously considering this path, though, you'll also need spare batteries, battery cases, and a charger. Please remember to put the batteries in a case when transporting or storing. Loose batteries can be a part of a recipe for disaster.

View attachment 802247 Also saying Aegis. Tough, easy to use, fairly easy on the wallet.
I held off because I thought it might be a bit big. Even the midsized ageis is as big or bigger than some box mods. The ageis mini is really nicely sized, but suffers from the standard microUSB2 issue, and the port placement might make a magnetic connector annoying.

Agree about micro-usb ports being a PITA ;) I've a tablet that is now useless due to the USB port becoming loose.

As others have suggested, if you want to stick with internal batteries, a magnetic USB cable is the best way to solve that problem. The connector end stays in the port, and you just 'touch' the cable to it when it needs charging.

Something like this: (round connectors work better than the flatter versions)

$3.93 TOPK Micro-USB to USB 2.0 Magnetic Charging Cable (100cm) - 2.1A current / LED light indicator / dustproof plug at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

there are two types of mods (vape devices, the body) internal battery mods and external battery mods (now of these 2 there are many different types: mech, regulated, vv, tc, squonk ;) )
the problem with internal battery mods is once the battery is dead the mod is useless or in your case if the usb is damaged it is useless
external battery mods if the battery dies, just replace the batteries and the mod is fine

I would highly suggest looking into the aegis (it's a single battery mod, not too big) or the aegis legend (it's a two battery mod, a bit bulky) they are very durable, can take a beating and keep on going and are fairly easy for new/intermediate users and can be found on sale quite often
you would need to get a few 18650 batteries (please look up mooch's battery charts to find a good battery) I would suggest lg hd 2's, samsung 25 r's or if you can find a good deal sony tvc 6's
and then at least a 2 bay battery charger, you can usually find them for $10 or less

I agree with everything except maybe the battery charger. A higher end battery charger can be used for any battery type and they have readouts to tell you how much juice you put into them. This helps when determining if the battery is ready to be recycled. They do cost more though.
