NF Malt Flavor Concentrate

I found a couple of threads about the NF Malt, but I have to ask this. Maybe I'm off base..
I just got my diymail today with my order from NF.

I was expecting "Malt", something thick in flavor like a good malted milkshake, or a malty beer. Grainy, with that distinct aftertaste.

This tastes like a cream, or caramel? No malty taste what-so-ever? Just me?

They have a Malt extract also (background pics of grains), I guess I imagined that the concentrate was just the concentrate of the extract?

Anyone tried this lately?

When I ordered mine, I imagined a flavor similar to the liquid malt extract used in beer brewing. NF's malt is much sweeter.

By itself, it's cloying and one-dimensional. In the background of a multi-flavor mix, it adds some nice complexity. I use it at 0.5-1%.

Thanks for the replies.. Going on that, I really think I got a mislabel then. There is no malt smell, or taste, unless they cut the batch with caramel flavoring. It's sweet, but like Brock's candy.

I haven't yet, going by taste and smell of the concentrate alone? It's sweet to be sure, am I wrong to be wanting notes of malt in flavor alone?

I didn't smell any Malt until I mixed with it.

Since I'm fairly sure where you got that from, I got 2 mislabels recently too. Luckily for me, they were just cross-labeled and were the same brand so I fixed it. It dawns on me that I should probably let them know.

Well I did an all day warm water steep just to make sure it mixed in well, still no Malt, but a nice caramel hint.. I'll contact them tomorrow, but does anyone else know of a good Malt extract flavor? I'm looking for that Malty beer aftertaste.. I'd just reorder it, but damn it took 10 days as stated on their site, and I really don't want to wait a month. Thanks!

I did get the one from Flavor Shack "Beer", but it isn't so much the beer I was after, though it does conjure it's own ideas. Was looking for a nice malty finish on a 555 hybrid. I had a different mix from a local shop that had a wonderful malty finish to it, and was looking to bring that into some of my own mixes.. Thought I had the right idea with the concentrate, but we'll see how the reordered does. Thanks Everyone for all the Info, and Ideas/Feedback.

There's a thread or two around here that mention BWB Malty Toffee clones. Maybe you'll get some more insight in one of them?

TFA sells a flavor called Maltol I think. They have some good information on their site. The site is not exactly real user friendly but dig around and you will find it.

Just took a look at TFA. they have Malted Milk Extra in their chocolate and vanilla flavor section. good luck

I've used TFA's Malted Milk without much success. To me, it tastes nothing like the real deal. YMMV.

Back to the drawing board, this isn't Malt.. Hopefully their customer service doesn't take 10 days as well..
