Hi there, I bought a Kangertech Evod kit from a shop in the UK, and have just bought another battery from eBay (was that unwise?!)

My question is - how can you tell if they're genuine? My shop bought Evod has the code P1405 on the bottom, and the eBay one has P1404.. Google seems to yield more results from P1404, but I don't want to believe that the one I bought in person could be a fake!!

Any tips? :)

Thank you!

What makes you believe that a shop-purchased item is any more authentic than one bought online from a reliable vendor? In reality, depending upon the B&M shops, they are just as likely to sell clones or knockoffs as Ebay.

There are trustworthy vendors here in the States that can be relied on to have authentic name brand gear. They will guarantee their supplies are authentic name brands. I'm not sure what the situation is like across the pond.

Just from my personal experience, you'll always get higher quality stuff from name brand manufacturers. Knock offs will be hit or miss, usually a miss. Knockoff vape gear poor quality is a major issue in this industry.

Knockoffs may be called a model type (ie Evod clearomizer), but not have the manufacturer's name in the description. Genuine items will have the manufacturer's name included in the description (ie Kangertech Evod).

No different this side of the pond .Decent bit of kit the evod , used them myself for a while before the pro tank.. Also bought some of Ebay they look the same but the coil is different. slightly smaller and a shorter narrower chimney. I found the coils weren't interchangeable between the two. You might get away with a rip off in the kanger one but kanger coils don't fit both.

Your EVOD kit should have come with a small card inside. That card has a scratch-off area that reveals the authentication code. You can check that code on the Kanger web site. If that card was missing, I would question the store about it. Was the box already opened, or did it have shrink wrap on it? Mine was shrink-wrapped.

I'm not sure if the replacement batteries have that authentication code.

I have some evod batteries. They have a P number on the bottom. I can look (?)

I am 99% sure one of my evods is a P1405, in which case, it's a genuine model number, as the top vendor in the UK does not sell copies. This doesn't solve your worry though as even model numbers will be copied.

I doubt you have much to worry about.

I recently purchased a battery from one of my local shops that was supposed to be genuine...but turned out to be a complete forgery (not just a clone). It's kind of hard to know who to trust but after a while, you begin to find an honest vendor or two...and you begin to learn what to look for. Needless to say, I will be very careful when and if I ever go back to that shop.
