I apologize for how dumb this question might sound but when I press the + and power button to move from wattage mode to temperature control mode I notice that it also changes a little indicator in the upper left hand corner that goes from ohm's, to NI, SS, Ti, exc. I'm guessing that is the type of coil material? Anyway does is matter whether I vape on one of those particular settings or do they all give the same vape / am I messing something up by vaping on the wrong one? For some reason it seems like if I use the SS setting I get a harsher hit than the ohm's setting but maybe it's all in my head?

While you can, depending on the build, use SS in watt mode, it's more suitable, imo, for TC. Ni is TC ONLY. Kanthal is, on that device, watt mode ONLY.

And yes, SS, NI refer to the material / metal alloy of the coil. If using TC mode, you DO need to select the setting for the coil metal you're using, as that programs the mod for the TCR of that metal. Using the wrong TCR will generally not be satisfying.

Don't have that particular mod, and don't use TC, hopefully someone who does will be along shortly :)

Thank you!! I am currently using the 0.5 ohm clapton coil. Is there a setting I should use for that particular coil?

Oh jeez, ok I think I might be figuring this out. It seems when I have it in ohm mode I can change the wattage but not the temperature. When I have it in the other mode I can change the temperature but it is automatically hitting at 100 watts (which would seem to explain why I feel like I get a harsher pull off the SS setting)? It seems kind of strange it maxes the unit out on wattage when running the other coils. I'm guessing the Clapton coil is only allowing me to change wattage? Is there a coil I can buy that will allow me to alter both wattage and temperature?

You can use ss and kanthal in power mode I believe there might be a preheat setting on that mod for power mode beside the watt setting also in power mode. (I might be wrong read the booklet that came with it) SS can also be used in tc. Nickel (Ni) and titanium (Ti)can only be used in tc. In tc you adjust the temp instead of the watts. Read the booklet that came with the mod I don't remember if the watts can also be limited in tc (I think it can) or its auto. Enjoy your mod. Read the instructions.

Thank you! Okay, I see that I need to be using the coils I have in wattage mode only. I think I'll replace the coil since it's been running on the wrong settings for the last couple days. Are there any health concerns I should worry about for making such a mistake or was I basically just messing up my coil? I mean is it the kind of thing that could have caused lung damage or something or is it just a newb mistake?

Is the screen below the proper setting? Really appreciate all the help.

That is the correct setting for a non-TC coil. Are you using the kit tank and coils? That 0.5 ohm Clapton is Kanthal, and for wattage only. There are a variety of iSub coils available, including Ni, Ti (both for TC only use), SS (either TC or watt) or Kanthal as you have.

Trying to run Kanthal in TC mode was not dangerous to your health. In fact the mod probably kicked you back to wattage mode without your realizing it as that's what will happen with a non-TC coil. You might have then been applying more power than necessary, which might have scorched the coil. If the coil tastes fine in wattage mode at an appropriate power level (I'd look for ~30W on that Clapton and slowly adjust up as needed) no harm done. If it tastes kinda burnt, you can always pop in a new coil. Just remember to prime it and increase your power slowly to properly break in the new coil.

Excellent, thank you very much. These forums are fantastic, seems like everyone I've met in the vaping community thus far is so pleasant and helpful. I guess it's easier to be nice when you can get your nicotine without the downsides. I've been smoke free for a good week and am already feeling better, though the taste buds coming back is not helping my waistline.

Take away my nic, and you'll see the cranky side of me in no time.

Congrats on your first week! That's a great start. And yes, it's pretty impressive as your taste buds and sense of smell improves how much better things taste. Especially pulled out of the fridge at 2 AM.;)

:thumb: Great start!

We all came here to unravel the mysteries of vaping, and ECF is a huge "quit smoking" support group. :)

Maybe brunch branch out some on the flavors you vape. Many find fruit and dessert flavors to be "sweet" enough to curb those cravings.
