Hey, i've been vaping for about one week now. I'm using a Vaporesso Switcher LE with the NRG 5ml tank and GT8 0.15ohm coil. I'm learning something new about vaping every day and i'm looking forward to being a part of the community here. I do have a few questions though as there are a few things I don't understand. I changed to a fresh coil today, put it in the filled tank and dropped about 10 drops of liquid directly onto the coil and let it saturate for about 10 minutes, but when I go to vape, it tastes almost like matches or sulfur. After letting it saturate for a little longer and changing the coil a second time, I still seem to encounter this. Is there something I'm missing or is it just bad luck?

Thanks

First off, I'm not familiar with your tank, but most tanks are set up pretty much the same way.

Sounds like 10 drops wasn't enough to properly "prime" the coil. The cotton should glisten and look like a slushy drink by the time you are finished priming a new coil.

Then, there is a "break in" period with a new coil, usually half a tank. When breaking in a new coil, set the wattage of you mod to the lowest recommended setting for that coil. After half a tank, you can up the wattage to your preferred setting.

This video was done for a different tank, but it demonstrates sound advice for setting up any coil for any tank. BE PATIENT.

Thank you for the responses, i've changed the coil yet again, gave it more drips in the coil and i'm letting it saturate in a full tank for about an hour before i try to vape as i really don't want to burn up another coil, i'm almost out of coils now but i guess thats just beginners luck. Maybe i need lower VG juice.

Try turning off the airflow and sucking through the mouthpiece without firing it.

You should notice bubbles in the tank from the juice being wicked by the coils.

This is how you can force juice quickly into the wick, but just don't overdo it or you'll be stuck with juice on your lips.

Did that, seems to have helped, i'm wondering if its the juice itself that's causing the issue, i let it saturate for an entire hour before puffing on it, still a sulfur like taste but not like a burnt taste.

Hello, I’m also fairly new to vaping. And learning as well, but what I have noticed is it usually takes about a full tank to get the real flavor to come out, for me it tastes kind of cottony during that first 3-5ML. Also you may double check your wattage is within the recommemded range, it tells you directly on the coil. I hope you find that sweet spot. Just hang in there I know how frustrating it can be on top of the withdrawals from cigarettes, but it’s well worth it once you get the hang of it. GOODLUCK.

Welcome aboard Magnetom. I have the Switcher with the NRG tank and a Cascade tank, both use the GT coils. I've not had any of the problems you describe. Are you putting a few drops of juice on the exposed cotton around the base of the coil? When you put a new coil in, you should set the power well below the recommended 50W and slowly adjust upwards until it gets where you like it even if it's lower than the recommended power range. You should also try the other coils as well. I actually like the GT6 and the GT4 better than the GT8. The Switcher is a great setup and you should really enjoy it once you work out the bugs.

I'm concerned about the sulfur taste. I've burnt my fair share of coils and never gotten a sulfur taste. You should try another juice if you're still getting that taste. Also genuine Vaporesso coils will have Vaporesso printed on the foil side of the blister pack. Good luck and don't get frustrated, you'll get it figured out.

I'm thinking i'll switch to the GT-4 once ive spent the last of my GT8s. I put around 10 drops or more directly onto the coil to saturate the cotton, i puff on it with the juice i have and it produces the strange flavor, maybe its just the juice mixing with the new cotton to produce some strange reaction flavor or something. I dripped a few drops of a different juice onto the coil's cotton directly and that really seemed to help. Maybe I need to discontinue the juice i have.

You should probably get a couple of sample packs of juice from a couple of sources to find something you really like. I can recommend Vapewild and Ohmsvapes from personal experience. Sometimes, the juice that sounds the best to you can taste like crap. Also, expensive doesn't necessarily mean better.

I've been using the 0MG nicotine JustJuice Dirtier Watermelon-Lemon Lime Soda
Try a juice without a soda note. Doesn't agree with some. IMO soda juices are better with lower watts. Maybe set it aside until you are using a higher ohm coil.

Changing your juice may help. However, it could be the fact that you are dripping the "new" juice into the coil which is also going to help prime. It could also be that you got to the "end" of your coil break in and then just "happened" to hit your coil's sweet spot. To truly know for sure you'd have to break in a new coil with that juice, to see if it works better (although, since your coil is working now, wait for that until your coil dies.

With that said, some juices don't seem to play well with some coils, and it's possible that your first juice really doesn't work with your tank. If so, yes, then switching to another juice may resolve many of your problems.

I'm not unfamiliar with an "odd" taste or two when breaking in some coils, but it shouldn't persist for very long if the coil was primed correctly, with a juice that works.

Best of luck, and if you are searching out juices, sample packs can be a great way to go to find out if you like a vendor's juice (period) but also for searching out flavors that work with your tank.

Best of luck,

Anna
