Hello everyone!

My kit just arrived today, and after 3 days of excessively smoking rollies in dread of never having to smoke them again, I've just lit up my first e-cigarette!

Its a 510, battery, atomiser and empty cartridges purchased separately. I think I did it all right: blew out the priming fluid, filled up the cart (27 drops), plus 2 drops directly to the bridge, and away we go!

Excellent throat hit and quite decent amounts of vapour! Hooray!! (I'm vaping Liberty Flights' 18mg Virginia blend (PG)).

Just one issue: It seems to be making a gurgling kind of noise when I drag. Not much, but some. I don't thing I overfilled the cart - I mean I filled it up, but when I took it off after a few drags the level was down - I couldn't see the top of it what with all the polyfill. Also I checked the battery end of the atty and its completely dry, so no sign of flooding. (I would know if it flooded, right?)

Actually another issue, I seem to be getting a slightly sweet taste on my lips after a drag. Is that just from the flavour or is it possible a bit of juice is coming through on this end? I cant see it or feel any leakage, but I don't quite know what too look for? What I'm asking is basically: does e-juice taste quite vile and I would know if I were getting it into my mouth?

I've also got a set of cartomisers, so I'll try those next, just have to see first how long this blank cartridge lasts me!

Good to be here!!

Maja.

Sounds like there is some juice in your cart-- it is making a gurgling noise as you draw air through and there's prob a tad amount coming out the tip (which you are tasting). Try blowing out the cart to clear any fluid that may be hiding in there. You can blow through the cart both ways, but if you are blowing in the reservoir side (there are two tiny vents on each side of the cart where you slip it into the atomizer casing) you should avoid doing it with anything in the cart (filler or fluid) to avoid getting even more in your mouth.

Thanks! So I need to use it up first? Or are you saying I can blow through the "operating" end of it even with fluid in the cart?

Also, I've been reading up a lot on this new hobby of mine :) and understand the mechanics of it pretty well, but I have yet to see a picture or drawing of the inside of a 510 cartidge? Anyone know of a good link or do I have to cut one up myself?

Aaah, I'm doing something wrong! Tried a new cartridge, in case sth was wrong with the old one and same thing. Only did 20 drops this time, the top was moist, but I couldn't see it levelling out or anything. After a few gurgly drags I took it out and those two slits or vents or whatever where both wet?

I don't get it, what do the chambers inside look like? Is it that the juice from the cartridge is going up and around down the side into the two vents or is something happening inside? Help!

You are over filling and flooding you atty. Yes the overfill will come up in the mouthpiece
clean the whole thing by wiping all the thread connections with alcohol and blow out the atty from the non threaded end in to a tissue.Take the cart off to do this. then reassemble the whole thing and try it then, If you have fluid still trapped in the air vents on the cart it will still gurgle. You may have to take the cart off and blow into the mouthpiece to clean the air vents too.

Another few tidbits. The 'smoke' is primarily water vapor. This will condense wherever it can. Like inside the atomizer and cartridge. If you have a sweet taste its most likely condensation, mostly water and a bit of juice. If on the other hand you're flooding the atomizer you'd be getting mostly pure eliquid. The nicotine in the juice will give it a rather nasty bitter taste. Once you're really gotten juice in your mouth vs. condensation you'll never ever confuse the 2 again ;)

This is the easiest way to clear out a full or partly full cartridge that I've found. Take the cartridge off the atomizer. Wrap a tissue around the body of the cartridge, that is the part that slides inside the atomizer. Blow hard as you can from the end you put in your mouth. Its an exhale vs. an inhale. Between the condensation and liquid the tissue will mop up on the cartridge and the liquid or condensation in the breather hole(s) that you blew into the tissue you should now have a reasonable clean dry cartridge.

neo42 and mini_art, you're both right about me overfilling, I'll try to curb my enthusiasm!

bsoplinger, that sounds about right. The atty isn't flooding, the battery end is completely dry and like you said, the taste is sweet, so I'm assuming it isn't pure juice. I've blown it out like you said. But is this condensation like a regular problem?

For me its very much a weather thing. I notice condensation issues some days and not at all on others. I'm sure the brand of juice makes a difference also. How fast and deep and often I vape makes a huge difference also. If you vape so much you run the atomizer hot it will make more vapor on each inhale. And if you don't inhale it all what's left will condense inside the atomizer/cartridge.

Bet if you slow down things will get better. Say a long deep 10 second draw and then not another for at least a minute you'll find condensation practically disappears. Puffing short and quick as if its an analog always leaves me with condensation when I pick it up for another vape after a few minutes of sitting and cooling. I don't do it that often anymore but will still if I'm stress vaping. At least I've stopped stress smoking so I figure I can live with the condensation.

oh if the juice condenses inside the cartridge...you can pry the end of the mouthpiece off...and look in there...there's probably juice trapped in there...just twist up a corner of a paper towel and absorb that...sometimes I pull that inner piece out too so that the juice cant get trapped there but will darin back into the atty..

I was having a bad issue with condensation on my carts. I found out it was a combination of the juice I was using (Seems the people I got it from have a somewhat high water content in their juice) and not continuing to drag for a moment after releasing the battery button (leaving vapor in the atomizer).

I've changed juices and changed how I finish a drag, and most of the condensation has disappeared.
