I've always heard to slice an apple in half and leave it in the car, supposedly it absorbs the odor.

I've been meaning to try it, after a good detailing of course, but I haven't yet. It would kind of be pointless anyway, even though I fuss with him my husband still smokes in my car. It's so annoying to open my ash tray to get change (I've repurposed it lol... or tried to) and end up having to sift through ash and a few of his cigarette butts. Arrgh. Nasty.

Hmmm.. just did some googling, there's a product called Ozium that's supposed to be like a miracle-cure for cigarette odors.

edit: Here is what someone said about Ozium in a vehicle forum, maybe it will help:

"Ozium, Ozium, Ozium! I had made a thread a couple of months ago about a rancid smell coming from the interior of my car, it smelled like smoke and mold combined. I used Ozium and the smell is completely gone.

Spray your entire car, and with your windows rolled up, Let Ozium work overnight and then let the car air out the next day. Make Sure you are not in the car while you are spraying as it is very dangerous to inhale.

Also, turn your air conditioner on high and let the air circulate from inside your car so Ozium can work through your entire Air filter system.

Good luck."

I gotta be careful here, but I know a LOT of people from the late '60s & '70s that swore by it for other types of smoke.....I'd say give it a shot.

Fabreeze does a good job and it's easy to find

If you use Febreeze, get the automotive version. I tried using regular Febreeze in my car (before the auto formula was out) and with the sun and heat it ended up smelling weird, alcohol-y. Think... bottle of perfume left in the sun all day. The auto won't turn like that.

A non smoking friend of mine purchased a used car that smelled horribly of cigarette smoke. They got rid of it by placing dishes of ground coffee inside the car while it was at home in the garage. It worked for them. Good luck!

I seem to remember someone mentioning coffee grounds will get rid of the stinky's.

If you want a real kick, next time you see Ozium take a look at the active ingredient... None other than Propylene Glycol (unless they've recently changed it).

start wearing ungodly amounts of ax body spray...

Hahahha!!! Oh man, cigs and axe...go ahead and toss in some red bull, vodka, Drakkar Noir and you'll have the elusive 'San Francisco Night Club Morning After Special'

To the OP: Ozium is good and Febreeze is excellent. Another thing is to take out the floor mats and vaccuum really, really well. Get under the seats, between the seats and anywhere else ash could have gotten. You wont see ash in your carpet, but it's there, fouling up your ride. Also, leave floormats, headrests and anything else made of pliable material in your garage to air out for a couple of days.

OZIUM ALL THE WAY. Don't use febreez it bleaches carpets if they are black or dark colors I can show pics of the carpet in my nova it was black, it is now black with red and pink patches. Also coffee grounds and some baking soda will work wonders, I had a half gallon of gas spill in my truck cab and that was the only thing that could get the smell out.
