Got an email from IMR today, Murata (Sony) is now offering a VTC6a. A 40A, 4,100 mAh 21700 battery. That's news to me, but maybe not to others, and if so, my apologies. A 40A 21700 with 4,100 mAh capacity really puts a hit on dual 18650 mods unless you're really at very high wattage. I'll be watching for test results on this one to see if those claims are legit.

Wow, the way the ad read it sounded brand new. Guess it was because of the Murata name change. Too bad to see it so overrated. I mean, I love my 40T, but I respect the 25A CDR for my personal decision making. I'm a little disappointed to see IMR overrate a Murata like that in an ad.
They are using:Continuous Discharge Rating: 30A (40A with 80° Deg. C temperature cut)from the battery's specs.

The Murata VTC6A 21700 has been around for a couple of years but it takes time for excess inventory to appear on the gray market and become available to the distributors.

There is no true continuous current rating in the datasheet but there is a temperature-limited 40A rating (keep under 80C). In my testing of the Sony VTC6A I gave it a tentative rating of 30A continuous.

I have two of these Muratas on the way to me now but I don’t expect them to perform any differently than the Sony version. Above 20A-25A I recommend the Molicel P42A or Samsung 30T.

Thank you Mooch! I didn't realize how long it takes for these to filter down. It's also the first time I see all of Sony's batteries in that ad labeled as Murata. As I'm not a high wattage vaper, my 40T's are fine, but it's nice to have another option on the market..

Me too. But now I know why. That was a Sony review from 2018, the new Murata name thing threw me along with IMR's claims. I really thought it was a new release. My bad. Never mind.

I'm glad you posted, I was unaware, also. I just got a mode that takes 27100's, this looks good. I lost my latest chart on battery recommendations, so this is helpful.

Hi there. Does anyone have info on how to work out the manufacture date on the VTC6? The Murata cells don't seem to follow normal Sony naming convention. For example - the cells in the image at the top of the page BG13 which works out as - Tue Jul 13 1993

edit - I guess you just keep adding up. 2019 is the new B

Do you mean the VTC6A? Here are the codes:
