ok i have a home made USB passthru for my 801. when this thing is plugged into a PC i get insane Vapor. damn near takes the back of my head off. it almost feeds you the vapor. very little suction needed.

when i plug this same passthru into a battery pack, it becomes a normal 801 on a normal 801 battery.

a quick test shows the output at 5.05 volts on the passthur connected to a PC. need a better tester to get the Amps. will update with that info when i get it. i know the output on a USB port is 500ma.

the question i have it, how do i get that power in a portalble device.
I am hooked on this 801 on the passthru.

USB 5v rated at 500ma doesn't necessarily mean it is limited to 500ma, you are probably getting more current than that.

Get a more powerful battery pack that puts out 5v at 1000ma or more and you should be vapin fine. The Kensington that I have puts out 5v at 1500ma, works GREAT and last all day.

A USB car charger rated at 5v and 1000ma or more also works great.

Slight thread drift but it might help or be of interest to some.

I had an old HP printer power supply (brick) with a 5 volt 1.2 amp/12volt output in the closet and cut the plug off and wired a female usb plug on the 5 volt output.
This thing is great if you're just stationary.
If I go mobil, I use the Kensington pack.

You only need to be careful to wire in the 5 volt side.
Just thought someone might want to try it with an old unused power supply.

what we all need to do is start talking about watts instead of volts, you need to find out how many watts the setup you like is use'n and then you will have a better idea of what to look for in a portable setup. But you are right you need to get a multimeter first that will give you your amp's (you can buy one for under 7 bucks at harbor freight if you have one around that will work fine for this), and find out how may watt's your burnin'.

but i have a feeling to get what you want you are going to have to start "high" (say two cells at 3.6 or 4.2 peak a piece) and use resistors to regulate, or diode's which are not necessarily made to resist, but have a varying resistance of .6 to 1.1 ohms for most rectifier types. good luck........

Just checked out an old computer power supply i had laying around...Red wire +5v 30Amps!, Purple Wire +5V 2amps...

Wow! imagine vaping at 5v 30,000mA's?

Somebody used molex connectors to hook up a wallwart in another thread... I mentioned tapping 5v off the power supply.

Mod a 'cold heat' soldering Iron into an e-cig using 801 atties..... you can use either four standard 1.2 v AA 2000mah rechargeable batteries which will actually give you 5.48volts fully charged or else use three batteries and a dummy which will give you 4.11volts fully charged ...either way you get plenty of power and vapour for about 2 full days of vaping 3ml a day.

A lot of confusion prevails about power supplies or batteries when it comes to our mods.

It's really all about voltage drop between the power source and the atomizer.
Two power sources which provide the same voltage may not have the same "source capacity", ie. a 12 volt lawnmower battery compared to a 12 volt truck battery.
If you try to start the truck with the lawnmower battery
the 12 volts will drop to maybe 2 volts or less due to the "voltage source capacity" and obviously the truck wont start.
That's why an 18650 2500 mAh battery will apply more voltage, for a longer period of time, to the atomizer than, say a 14500 900 mAh battery resulting in a better vape. Same voltage, just a stronger voltage source (less voltage drop).
Sorry for the "epistle".

the problem with the passthru and battery is that it's size.

what i am really hoping for is a device like a SD or nicstick that would produce like the usb passthru does.

can this be done?

I have ordered one of these, I will let you know how it works.
LED Light
The nice thing is it is a led light that can be taken on a plane, and it is a USB power source for vaping, cell phone,PSP,iPod etc power :) The battery type is a 18650Li output voltage is 5.2v DC max 1000mAh and it has a battery life LED, I am hopeful!

That's it in a nutshell 500kv...a good example.

WOOOOOHOOOOOO I got this thing in, charged it and it worked like a champ! It has the 18650Li battery in it and 5 LED indicators that tell you the battery strength. I hooked up the light and man is it bright. I like this better than my kensington. It is alot smaller, so far I am thrilled! I think I will buy a second battery for a spare.

I can see this as a nice lil mod. Even comes with its own carry case..

Big battery, Plug in to charge, puts out 5 volts with a 18650 battery.. Hmmmmmm!? I gotsta try now! How big does this feel in your hand??
I am assuming that these dimensions they give: 195x112x38mm are for the whole unit in its case, right?

Indeed.

There are two factors:

1) the voltage decline will be slower as the higher capacity battery charge declnes over time.

2) from the get-go the voltage drop will be less in a higher capacity battery, because the internal resistance is less.

The trade off is with the extra size (and weight).

Feels like a SD handle :) Real nice! I have already thought of modding a USB Male connector with a mom switch and a 901 batt connector so I can just plug and vape. Of course I can always use a the manual USB pass through I made until then. Not a whole lot to mod it is I think the perfect package. Batteries can be swapped in seconds, just need a second batt for a spare. Am gonna use this tommarow and see how long it lasts.
Great Price, should have gotten 5!
