I'm new to RBAs and have a basic question (I've tried a search, but can't find an answer):

When I read through the various posts on ECF, posters often talk about "micro coils," and "coils." I assumed that they were simply describing their coil builds. Is a "micro coil" different from a regular coil, or are the two terms used interchangeably? Is a micro coil smaller that a "regular" coil? Apologies for this basic question.

Micro coils are where each coil is touching the coils next to it, while a coil has a bit of separation between each coil.

A micro coil heats up faster but touches less wick and, therefore, uses less juice.

A regular coil heats slower but has more contact with the wick and its juice. More flavor but more juice.

(I believe)

Hi Peter, I copied this graph from slippy_eel who posted it earlier on another thread. I had the same question and this cleared it up for me.

I'm not sure what the numbers in the gauge column mean though. Seems much too thick to be actual wire gauges as used for coils for our purposes.

A "Macro" coil would be anything bigger than .094" (ie: 1/8" or 3mm).

Right on :) The "gauge" column was when we used to wrap wire around luer lock needles - that was the needle gauge :)

Here's an updated info sheet :)

If'n i were to edit it I'd add that I no longer wrap wire around anything - rather I use the artistic wire coil gizmo and the rod spins and wire is held stationary under tension.

The second smallest rod in the 5 rod model set is right around 1/16" - the size seems to vary slightly from set to set according to published and user measurements, but that rod - the one that's about 1/16" is the one to use :)

Perfect, thank you super_X_drifter. This is precisely the information that I needed. BTW, I am a subscriber to your You Tube videos; I like your no nonsense approach and easy to understand tutorials.

Peter

Thank you brother. I am glad to have you rolling with me :). Rock on my man :)
