The Los Angeles City Council today will consider
banning the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors.
The 15-person council will take up a proposal by Councilman Paul Koretz
to take the first steps in prohibiting the sale of so-called "e-cigarettes,"
which allow users to inhale nicotine-laced liquid as vapor, to young people and
children, or to extend existing restrictions on traditional cigarettes and
tobacco products to e-cigarettes.
The number of high school students who said they used e-cigarettes
doubled between 2011 and 2012, from 4.7 to 10 percent, according to Koretz's
original motion.
Before the vote, Koretz will be joined by City Attorney Mike Feuer,
council colleagues Mitch O'Farrell and Bernard Parks, and the director of the
Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Dr. Jonathan Fielding, to
discuss the proposed ban on e-cigarette sales. They will also announce another
motion to regulate how e-cigarettes are used.

Several municipalities are now seeking to regulate e-cigarettes as they
grow in popularity.
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors last month voted to look into
regulating electronic cigarette use under the county's anti-tobacco policy.
In August, Seal Beach's City Council set a 45-day moratorium on e-
cigarette sales in new stores, something Los Angeles should also do, Koretz's
motion states.

L.A. City Council moves to regulate sales and use of e-cigarettes - latimes.com

"It's important to protect young people from this deadly habit and to protect people from second-hand smoke," said Councilman Paul Koretz, who pushed the ordinance.

Trust a California Councilman to push for legislation on a subject they know nothing about. THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

The health risks of inhaling vapors are not yet known, yet the devices are being marketed to children, Gomez said.
"Many products are being produced that are candy-flavored or fruit-flavored including Cap’n Crunch and Fruit Loops,'' she said.

Because you must be a child to enjoy Cap'n Crunch and Fruit Loops. :glare: I guess you're only considered an adult when you eat nothing but wheat germ, brussel sprouts and tofu...I wonder if they'd still have a problem with vaping if those were the only available flavors. SMH

Could someone explain appears to be a redundantcy since California State Law does not allow the sale e-cigs or e-cig liquid containing nicotine to minors and this has been the law for I believe over 3 years.

Is the city's definition of e-cig different than the state? Is this intended to included 0-nic "e-hookah" devices?

The venom and blatant ignorance clearly indicate some other motive than public safety.

"It's important to protect young people from this deadly habit and to protect people from second-hand smoke," said Councilman Paul Koretz, who pushed the ordinance.

also,
"It's a very sinister approach to a very sinister product,'' said Councilman Mitch O'Farrell, who wrote action regulating use of e-smoking devices. "We don't want to wait for the feds to do something."
