Bought this beauty today. It reads voltage great. I get no reading for ohms though. It either has a blown fuse or its a lemon. Anyone have any experience with this meter?

Also, what is the technical explanation as to why you use the "200" setting for DC volts and the ohm reading for batteries and atomizers?

That is just the max range for a given setting. You just need to adjust the range for whatever you are testing for. Most decent auto-ranging meters will be priced higher.

YES, and thanks. I just found this website:https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/how-to-use-a-multimeter/all

So in looking at my meter and measuring a coil I know to be less than two ohms, I could set my meter to the "2K" setting in the ohms section. For DC Volts, I could set the meter to 20K in the DC Volts section of the meter since I will never use more than 20v to run a mod of any type.

I was confused as the picture shown in the sticky of this forum says the correct setting is to put the meter at "200" for both readings which is actually a little bit of a misnomer. It works either way but.......

I paid around $34 or $37 bucks for this meter...It still will not read my coils...

You want to use the lowest setting without going over for accuracy and measuring capability without blowing a fuse. For measuring your coil you want to use the 200 ohm setting because that is the lowest setting. For voltage setting I would think you should use 20 volt setting but 200 would be ok too. How are you metering your coil? One lead for each coil end should get your readings. Try touching the meter's leads to each other on the 200 ohm setting. It should read zero ohms. If not something is not right with your meter.

You are using the right "200" setting? The one for ohms is the one on the right at the 3 o'clock position. The one for volts is on the left at about 8 o'clock. The correct setting for volts with this meter would be "20" though, at about 7 o'clock.

2k means 2,000 and 20k means 20,000. You don't want to use those.

DING!!! I am not home to try it but this is the answer. Well Bowled. I feel like a schmuck now...I was using the 200 for DC Volts but not using the 200 "at 3 o'clock" for the ohms...I was not sure if this "200" was in the ohms section but obviously it is. Thanks so much and will report back when I get home...

It isn't very clear, but there white lines between each of the types of measurement.

At about six o'clock, the 200m is in the volts section (200mV) and the 2M is in the ohms section (2 Megohm). Anti-clockwise of 200ohms is a white line and the single measurement in that section is the audible continuity measurement. Then there is a pair of ranges for apparently measuring battery conditions. Then come the current ranges until about ten o'clock, two ranges for AC volts, off, and the the DC volts again. There are three spurious markings that you'd have to check the manual for: the two sparks on 600V AC and DC are probably warnings about high voltage and the diode is probably saying 200 ohms is the right range to test diodes on.
