I've removed the airflow adjustment screw (#13), from my authentic kayfun v4, in the hope of achieving the maximum available airflow without needing the S4 kit.

I'm not sub Ohming and will be mainly using single coils between 1.1 and 2 ohms at 7-15 watts.

Can someone tell me if I've just done something stupid.

P.S. I have kept the tiny airflow screw somewhere safe - just in case.

I find they work better without the screw!

Thanks Amanda, I'm finding this Kv4 a royal PITA to tune.

I wicked it yesterday with some inferior juice just as a test. Filled the tank. Opened the juice control - 5ml disapeared.

Took 2 pulls at 8 watts, the tank emptied!

Couldn't work out where 4ml had gone. Topped up the tank, and it vaped beautifully all evening.

Today, re-wicked and half filled the tank with Castle Long.
Opened the juice control. A few bubbles but no perceivable juice drop in the tank. Followed by dry hits.

I'll stick with it, as when it's good the Kv4 is a great vape! But it's a fussy little so and so.

Speaking of the K4 (of which I have a 1:1 clone) - it worked perfectly the first day. Then the juice control got stuck. I don't mean just hard to open, it turns a couple millimetres one way or the other, I mean stuck as in there could be something not allowing it to move. Fortunately it got stuck in the open position so it is still fully functional. I open it from the rebuildable section and fill it through the inside end of the juice holes. But - does anyone have any idea what could have happened and what could possible be holding the juice control from turning as it should?

Thanks Doofy.

I think I've got enough airflow now with the screw removed. I just wanted to check that removing the screw wouldn't upset some delicate balance with the tank vacume or something.

As I mentioned it didn't really help, as I'm still getting dry hits at 10watts, but now with good airflow :)

My bets still on my wicking. Athough I was Wondering if perhaps yesterday's juice might have solidified in the decks juice holes over night and today while I was at work. Every hear of this happening?

You want the wick JUST touching the little juice holes (as well as making sure your juice control is open while actively vaping) and not folded or kinked over them.

If you continue having trouble with wicking and or desire more airflow, I'd recommend getting an orchid or silverplay to use the base with your kayfun... you can get an orchid base on FT pretty cheap.

You could also try taking the congestion ring out to see if it helps.

Thanks for the tips Tehmidcap.

I've been experimenting to get the wicking right, and mainly have the wicks just toughing the deck.

I changed my build yesterday from a 2.4mm diamiter coil, to a 3mm diameter coil, and got fantastic results.

Re-wicked the same coil today and nothing but dry hits :(

I'll keep trying.

When it worked yesteday it was sublime, and that and because it's an authentic puts me off swaping out any major components, but I'd be interested to knwo what the congestion ring is?

What number is it on the attached diagram?

You don't mean #25? I wouldn't think the Kv4 would work without it? There wouldn't be a chimney seperated from the juice?

I've got the wick running with some resistance, but not so much that it really pulls on the coil. I'd say it's just right, but as this is my first rebuildable, I don't have the experience to say for sure.

Certainly not pulling the coil out of place, let alone bending it. Perhaps I'm not jamming enough in. Lol.

Caterpillar:

I have no idea what you mean when you talk of juice disappearing. Do you mean visibly leaks out, or just simply, er, vanishes?

And are you certain you understand the juice control and are operating it correctly? How many turns do you get from lock to lock on juice control? Should be more than 2 turns.

#25 is congestion ring. I've seen a few reports of people leaving it off with no downside. Can't see an advantage to it tho.

Juice disappearing sounds similar to a problem on my Kayfun V4 in the beginning. I was doing different builds to try and find my sweet spot and the juice seemed to disappear. My problem was due to the o-ring #36 not being seated properly and being pinched off center. I checked all the other seals except that one... 15mls later... leak fixed. If your losing juice, make sure you check all the o-ring seals that affect the vacuum. Good luck
