Kangertech Protank, premade replacement coils with wicks

I read somewhere that instead of rebuilding the coil and wicking the Protanks that you can buy wired wicks ready to rock n roll to put in. Not talking about the full atomizer replacements which are like $25 for 5 of them, just the coil with wick. Where do you find these?

I'm a newbee, got my first vapor set up on the way via USPS. It's a Kangertech Evod VV Battery with a Kangertech Evod Clearomizer. I know nothing about ohms and all that. If somebody knows where to buy the wicked coils, I need to know what ohms to get. Posting a link would be super helpful. I've been watching utube about recoiling protanks to make them work better and I'm completely confused with ohms part. The battery I got is just a ego style variable voltage 3.2v-4.8v, not sure what ohms this little battery can handle? I have a friend with "THE SETUP" Huge mod, Billows Tons Of Smoke, would like my little Kangertech setup to perform well :vapor: Thanks!

you can buy pre made coils on Mountbakervapor i'm pretty sure. check em out, then all you need is thread the wicks through..

honestly it's not that hard but you should read up on micro coils and building your own before you start diving straight into vaping with that. unless your buddy can help you out with that. dont just dive in with your eyes closed.

Hey varroasuck, welcome! I could be wrong, but maybe from Fasttech? Seems I saw them before. I'm just gonna say it's much easier to rebuild a coil than you'd think. I'm a 45 year old female and know next to nothing about ohms, watts, volts........ just what I've learned here. It's such a great forum!

I ordered kanthal, silica and an ohms meter from Discount Vapers, watched videos over and over, then just dove in. I try to go for 2.2 ohms when I build. I have 32g and 30g kanthal. I use silica or cotton for wicking.

Once you get more than 5 posts, you can even post in the rebuildables areas of the forum for MUCH more knowledgeable info.

Welcome again!

Just for the record, protank coils can be had for a lot less than 25 for 5. I got 2 5 packs for under 13 bucks on eBay. They are genuine kangertech 2.5 ohm. I'm building my own coils but I wanted a bunch of them so I wasn't constantly having to rebuild, i have 18 in all so I can wait til I get 10 that need rebuilding and do them all at once.

from the list above, I would personally go with these: $2.28 Pre-made Wires and Wicks for Atomizer (50-Pack) 50-pack - 33 AWG / 1.8ohm / 4-wick at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I find that having 4x 1mm wicks gave me good performance with silica+protank/evod builds. 1 or 2 flavor wicks on top, depending on juice thickness.

but as others mentioned, making these coils can be learned very quickly, and you can tweak the build to taste. you could order small amount of wire and wick and give it a try, I was surprised to learn that I really enjoy doing them. good luck!

Don't forget that with the pre-made wicks and wires, you run the risk of ending up with less resistance than specified since you will trim off some of the wire to fit the Kanger heads which don't need a lot a lead wire. Resistance is a function of length.

It's hard to tell from the spec. There have been a lot of issues with the bottom coils with leaking and gurgling; most of them stem from the type of juice you use and how you tweak your coil/wick set up: flavor wick or not, cotton, silica, or ekowool, etc.

The Kangers need to be adjusted to your juice and vaping habits. It can get to be a pain to find the right combination, but it is a really easy re-build. All you need are some needles in different sizes or screws (4-40 machine screw), a butane lighter or torch (to anneal the wire to remove the springiness, you can also use your gas range), a small needle nose pliers, and some cheap nail clippers. Of course, wire and wick in different sizes.

There are plenty of instructional videos on YouTube on how to do it. As others have pointed out, you can get replacement heads cheaply enough (certainly not $25 for 5 which is a total and unequivocal rip off), but be aware that there are a lot of clones out there.

Some work; some don't, regardless of what the packaging or ad says.

The only pre-made coils I would buy are the ones for a different style of atty which require a resistance/no resistance welded wire. It's the reason I have stayed away from this type of atty since I really don't feel like buying a welder (expensive) nor do I have the time to build one.

IMHO, the stock Kanger coils are tuned for a generic 70/30 PG/VG light colored juice which is not loaded with sweetener. If you are willing to spend the time with them, they can be a really great vape.

My mistake: I assumed that everyone delving into coil building had an ohm meter of some sort. With so many VV/VW PV's having some sort of resistance checker in them, it's something I forgot. You need to be a little bit more careful with these since some actually fire your atty to check resistance. My ProVari has a separate function to check resistance; my Vamo will just give you an error message.

Those little boxes (again around $10-$20 from Fasttech) are really helpful in doing coil rebuilds since they give you a nice stable base to work on for coil builds. With the Kanger's, you can only test an assembled head but sometimes you might have to move the coil around before you pop the chimney back on.

Whatever you use, safety first!

I've looked at those pre-cut wicks and wires and haven't found them to be as good of a deal, IMO. You can get 100 feet+ of Kanthal 32GA for a few dollars, that's easily probably 100 times what you get in those kits. Silica or ekowool is a bit more expensive, but you can still get quite a bit of length for not too much. Lightning Vapes has kanthal for as cheap as the manufacturer and they shipped next day. I got my Ekowool and silica from OKCVapes, also a company I'd do business with again.

I suppose if you're not sure you want to do rebuilds (like I used to be), it's a good idea to spend a little less to make sure...but I got the bug quick and ordered bulk right away. As others mentioned, an ohm meter is an essential tool. You can use the common "regular" style out there, but I found value in the speed/convenience of one of those 510-connector ohm meters, they're just under $20, usually. I figure it'll pay for itself in about 20 rebuilds or less.

DiscountVapers has one of the better deals I've seen on the pre-made coils. I just put in an order with them yesterday and it all ready shipped. So far, no reason not to recommend them. My shop carries them for $25 for 5 of them too...had to get away from that. Live and learn!

I do own a multimeter, quite a fancy one as it happens but its tedious when I can have my Kmax there, with the head on it at a handy height and little blip o' the button and I get a resi reading.... its also good for a vape ;)

I have an Aerotank with dual coil heads and its a world away from the single coiler eVods etc, real cloud maker but the heads are slightly different for the PT3 and Aero I got told and knowing how crowded a single coiler is in there, its prob really really tight lol
