Joules in the way it's used on the YiHi chips is a pretty meaningless term. They should have just called it Watts and been done with it.

Used correctly the Joules is the watts divided by the time it is applied in seconds. So 50 Joules on a 1 second puff would be 50W, but 50 Joules on a 10 second puff would only be 5W. That's not how Yihi chips calculate it though. They aren't using the term correctly.

Yeah. They are basically using joules as the number of watts per second. So if you vape for one second at 50 joules, they are delivering a total of 50 watts for that one second. If you vape for 10 seconds, they are delivering 50 watts for every one of those seconds, so it is delivering a total of 500 watts. If you vape for half a second, it is still delivering 50 watts, but just for half a second. So for them to say it is joules is really meaningless. If it is set for 50 joules, it is the same as setting it for 50 watts.

Incorrect.

j = watt second

That's very different from watts PER second.

With joules you take the number of watt seconds and divide by the total number of seconds that power is applied.

So 10 watt seconds applied over 10 seconds of time is 1 watt per second. 10 joules applied for 10 seconds is also 1 watt per second. 10 joules only equals 10 watts if it's only applied for 1 second.

Bottom line, no mod that uses "joules" really uses joules as power output. Like any other TC mods, they regulate wattage on the fly according to your manually selected max temperature and max wattage, if applicable. On these mods that employ joules like the ones based on YiHi chips, the joule setting is just a trendy rebadged term for watts. 50 joules on the SX Mini M class maxes wattage to 50 and adjusts it on the fly to maintain your selected temp.

How to convert joules to watts (W)

so according to this site if i have my sx mini set at 25 joules and each vape i take is 5 seconds then im only vaping at 5 watts?
How does the mod know how long you're going to hold the button down, in order to deliver the correct wattage so you get the desired amount of joules when you're done? Answer: it can't. When you set it for 25 joules, it's delivering 25 joules per second. If you vape it for 5 seconds, then, you're getting a total of 125 joules over those five seconds (25j per second, times 5 seconds.) The unit of measure, here, is not raw joules but "joules per second." Thing is, we've already got a word that's used for joules per second. It's called watts. 25 watts on, say, a DNA 40 device, and 25 "joules" on your SX Mini are, by definition, exactly the same thing. You're vaping at 25 watts.
