JD Wetherspoons have had a rethink on the use of e-cigs in their pubs. They discussed e-cigs at a recent weekly operations meeting thanks to Jim (Durinthiam) emailing the Company Secretary.
They are;

'Currently allowing vaping in the south west region as a "trial" to judge impact on operations and customer perceptions

- Jim'

Any vapers in the South West that wish to help JD Wetherspoons come to a positive conclusion about vaping, please pop along to your nearest Spoons with your kit and help educate their clientelle as to what e-cigs are all about.

I find some attitudes by pubs laughable when it comes to ecigs. Virtually none of them banned smoking indoors before they were forced to by law and they knew the health effects well then. The Slug & Lettuce chain were the only one I know who banned smoking indoors prior to the ban.

Now we have this odd situation where pubs will blame the smoking ban for loss of trade on the one hand, but then say allowing vaping could be bad for business on the other.

This is hilarious as I was on a night out recently in the south west (Bristol) which happened to be my first time vaping in public - I visited 2 weatherspoons during the night and as with all the venues I went to I asked at the bar if it was cool to vape i.e excuse me what is your policy on e-cigs. the short version is that one was fine with it and the other shot me down and said no . . . . ironically this was the only pub/bar to say no the whole night and even more ironically the only one where the guy I asked knew what I was on about as he has an e-cig himself! he checked with the manager and was told no.
