JB Weld Mixed with Black Paint Pigment ~10 drops

45 minutes with a file and 60,400,1500 sand papers (what I had on-hand)

When I'm holding it it looks straight (hehe). Daughter says it's ugly, but all I can see it black jb weld (hmmmm!)

I asked nicely for a tablespoon of pigment at Home Depot's custom paint desk.

*tip: bring a paper funnel and small sealable container - they can't see exactly where it's coming down. Or, cut the top off a water bottle out of the trash (me).

EDIT: Adding pictures...

the JB weld is applied over a dollar flashlight (didn't like the knurling, haha, so went with the concrete block look)

i mixed it up and slathered it on, then used a credit card to smooth - that didnt' work, so I soaked a piece of paper towel in ISO and used that to smooth it some. hit it with a blow dryer for a bit, let it cool and went to work on knocking the rough edges off.

i want to use a color wheel and see if another color might be possible

i kind of wish i'd sunken in something colorful or perhaps adding some curvy lines

anyway, the test was to see if jb weld could be colored, sort of works.

Epoxy didn't get "hard" mixed with pigment, unless at a small enough percentage to make it translucent. Brick red sanded looked like a viton o-ring (very light burnt-red). Didn't think it was hard enough to get a really smooth finish, so gave up.

Epoxy mixed with nail polish took on the same color, and it was pretty but no way to sand or shape it (not hard enough).

I'm back to black jbw as my first choice.

my third diy mod was a rough looking one, i made it out of a brass pipe with garden hose brass caps, looked cool, was going to use an etcher and design it up but with my hand turning green i decided to wrap it, ended up having the brilliant idea of using a tennis racket grip wrap, comfy and all but people at work were like "why does your smoke pipe say wilson on it?"

have you tried using artist pigment? (The powder kind from an art store, used for making DIY oil paint or arcryllic? I have used it with poly resin (the clear 2 bottle stuff like envirotex) and it works pretty easy. Awesome idea. Especially if you are using JB to mount the connector. At least now a color other than gray can be used.
