Is it possible that mold or mildew got in my carto tank?

I left the same carto in my glass carto tank for a really long time - like over a month. The performance never waned, so I thought everything was fine. Then a few days ago I noticed a slightly weird flavor note on the exhale - kind of like ... ever so slightly... moldy? So I switched to a brand new carto and filled up the tank with new liquid (most of the old liquid went into the new carto of course). But the taste won't go away. Did I ruin the liquid in the tank by leaving the carto in too long?

When in doubt throw it out. What would you rather have, a lost tank or moldy lungs? If it tastes like mold then it's probably mold.
Sounds like excellent advice. There only like a buck fitty anyways.
I would replace the liquid as well don't want to get sick.
The tank is probably ok.

Oh... sorry if I didn't make it clear. I threw out the old carto when I put in a fresh new one. But when you switch out cartos in a tank that is filled with juice, in priming the new carto, it sucks all the surrounding juice in that was in the tank.

What I'm asking is - can a carto going through its aging process (the degrading of the poly-fill) while immersed in e-liquid, left too long in that liquid, ruin the liquid it's surrounded by? Like infuse it with part of its degrading filler?

I would assume that it can just to be safe.

I'm not an expert, but I've been reading that propylene glycol is an antimicrobial agent and should prevent mold from growing. What PG/VG ratio was the e-liquid in question?

Yeah it's probably not mold or mildew. (It's 50/50 menthol.)

I'm thinking it's more likely an infusion of the degraded poly-fill. Which turns out to have a pretty nasty aftertaste. I'm just surprised that that flavor could infuse into all the surrounding liquid.

Or... it's something else entirely and has nothing to do with the old carto that was left in there for a month. Because when you think about it, I refilled the liquid in that tank numerous times that month. So it wasn't like it was the same liquid that whole time.

the tank is fine. just throw the carto out and clean everything.

I found a few 808 cartos i had with juice in them and they were corroded with some slight rust on the base where the juice leaked over time. these were 1 year or older. I do not think i month would do any harm, but always toss the carto if it sits to long as the juice will react with the filler material and the juice will continue to steep and the nicotine will break down things over time.

Most likely the issue stems (sic) from the drip tip down...
Condensation and the human mouth contact on the drip tip can make a killer germ warfare thriller....

If you left your drip tip on, or simply didn't clean out the top of the carto after removing a drip tip, that can be a great place for mildew to grow.

My genny if I leave it for more than 3 days with juice gets the worse taste ever
its a brass coated chrome unit and the top cap when cleaned has a green residue when this happens

I found that if you soak your brass atty in vinegar it at least makes the brass safer for use as it wont leech carbon molecule thats bad for us.
I do not have all the specifics but it has tamed down the nasty taste after sitting and the occurrence of greenish residue..
If I did it more often methinks it would solve it but I have only vinegar soaked twice and had the atty 6 months. lol lazy
Its badarse too it is my room fogging atty.. The micro-coil has been on it for 3 months and it gets rusty sorta..
It cleans up but yeah theres also a rusty type residue, i toothbrush off. ssmesh wick with a cotton cloud I always change the cloud when this happen too..
