Only when you first try them. I'm sure thise chemicals are around.

Folks often get head rushes when vaping at first.
I clicked on your link but I didn't get any information. A lot of people laugh at my question but if you do a simple Google search you will find out that menthol changes how nicotine works in your body, not only that menthol on its own does its own changes in the brain. I used to smoke menthol cigarettes but eventually started liking non menthol cigarettes only. Now when I have a menthol cigarette I don't like the taste and I can feel the difference, it's like I get more alert more energy and it changes my mood.

I don’t know what are in koolanda and ws-23. someone said that koolanda is made by reacting menthol with methyl-lactate. Which implies it’s basically the same. I cannot confirm this though.

there is documentation Perfumer & Flavorist - March 2014 - page36

which implies koolanda is actually just a brand name of one of the ws numbered compounds. WS apparently stands for ”Wilkinson sword” a company that I personally remember for making razor blades in the 1970’s.

Looking at the article, the compounds seem to have similar properties to menthol, which implies they probably do. I have no specific knowledge though.

Thank you for the information. I will only be using non iced vapes juice from now on.

”similar” does not mean “the same”. If “cooling properties” are not tied to this reaction then probably not. Apparently though to have l”cooling properties” a chemical needs to be of a certain size, and contain a particular atomic group. So the ws stuff were all the variants that fit that requirement. ”designer drug menthol” so to speak. I don’t know if they were trying to make it cheaper or just make something that ”technically wasn’t menthol” or that would have different properties and could be mixed with things menthol didn’t mix with or what. They’re all pretty similar though. I think it is likely. Not guaranteed, but likely. There seems to be a paucity of official testing. Wilkinson may know, and the cigarette companies that use the products probably know as well, (as they research everything and have found a way to keep such research non-public. See the movie “the insider” for deets) but I can’t find any info Online.

I also looked at it again and it says that its a derivative of menthol so my guess would be that it does contain menthol or has similar psychoactive properties to menthol.

Is ice in vapes psychoactive? I know menthol can have psychoactive properties when used with nicotine. I'm asking this question because I'm only interested in consuming nicotine and not another chemical that also changes brain activity. I can find the information on menthol but I can't find anything on koolada or ws-23.

If it was thats all I would vape..

Ice in vapes usually refers to cooling agents like Koolada or WS-23, which are non-psychoactive. Unlike menthol, these additives don’t alter brain activity—they simply provide a cooling sensation. So if you’re only looking for nicotine without any additional psychoactive effects, Koolada and WS-23 are safe options to use.

    :vapor:

The LLAMA says. ( Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known to humans. A little menthol makes little difference, It is like adding a BB shot from a pellet gun to 50 calibre bullet shot out of a rifle. The BB is meaningless.) The cooling effect is a physical pleasure, not psychoactive.

And I have nothing to sell !

"Menthol itself is not considered psychoactive in the traditional sense, as it does not produce effects typically associated with substances that alter mood, perception, or cognition, such as alcohol or certain drugs. However, menthol can have some effects on the body that might influence perception and sensation.
Here are a few points to consider:
    1. Cooling Sensation: Menthol activates the TRPM8 receptor, which is responsible for sensing cold temperatures. This can create a cooling sensation that some people find pleasurable or refreshing.
    2. Mild Stimulant Effects: Some studies suggest that menthol may have mild stimulatory effects on the central nervous system, potentially enhancing alertness or focus, but these effects are generally subtle and not comparable to those of traditional psychoactive substances.
    3. Association with Smoking: Menthol is commonly used in cigarettes and tobacco products, where it can mask the harshness of smoke and make inhalation easier. This can lead to increased consumption, which might indirectly affect mood and cognition due to nicotine's psychoactive properties.
    4. Potential for Misleading Effects: The sensory effects of menthol might lead some individuals to perceive a change in their mental state, but this is more about sensory modulation than true psychoactivity.
In summary, while menthol can influence sensory experiences and may have mild effects on alertness, it does not have psychoactive properties in the way that substances like caffeine, alcohol, or illicit drugs do."

So it depends on what you mean by “psychoactive”. For menthol as well as the other stuff apparently.

It's inconsequential when combined with nicotine. It's like a sweetener in vape juice. It's sensory. To be consuming nicotine and menthol in a product and worrying about the psychoactive effect of menthol is ludicrous. It's the same as asking if a little menthol in my methamphetamine is psychoactive or addictive. Nicotine is strongly psychoactive. My pulmonologist told me if I am going to vape, don't use menthol because it irritates the lungs. I rarely use it because my lungs are damaged from smoking. It does not matter to me as I did not smoke menthol cigarettes. Menthol is probably going to be banned in California on January 1st 2025. I don't think there will be as much outrage as there would be if nicotine was banned. lol if that where the case there would be riots.

Menthol is not psychoactive. It's just bizarre someone would be concerned about menthol when they are using nicotine. Nicotine is psychoactive, and like I said one of the most addictive substances known. Nicotine has a massive effect on the brain. People can associate the physical impacts of menthol with the delivery system of the drug. They can associate the physical impacts of menthol with getting jacked on nicotine. That's what most of the literature I found said. It can be a small part of the delivery of an addictive substance, but the addiction is to nicotine. Nicotine is the elephant in the room. Menthol is the fly. Do you understand my point? I have read that is part of the psychology of addiction is like this. "I vape nicotine but don't do flavours", "I only vape nicotine that is not extracted from tobacco.". "I only drink organic beer and not distilled alcohol". "I only use prescription opioids, not street opioids". Same line... LOL I know I am addicted to nicotine. It's a question of "Know Thyself" and I know myself.

I don't think I meant menthol is psychoactive like nicotine or THC. I meant to say that it can cause changes in the brain like increasing nicotine receptors in the brain and other changes. I don't think I would mind vaping menthol or menthol cigarettes I just don't prefer the coolness of menthol in general. Also I need help deleting this account and comments since I've started a debate. I have no clue on how to delete this. But according to a Google search menthol does its own changes in the brain when administered with nicotine compared to just nicotine alone. Like I said I don't care about the menthol I just don't like the coolness of it.

No need to delete the account because of the debate. It was mostly myself and someone else. No worries ! People can disagree debate and walk away friends. If we don't like it don't use it. I would rather make that choice rather than have the government make it for me. Perhaps we can agree on that.

My point is that nicotine is the elephant in the room and the main concern. People can take that for what they want. I don't use it. We are all nicotine addicts or we would not be here.

Starting a debate about something on your mind is a great thing. You got people talking. Very good!

Flavored tobacco bans are a huge issue in the United States. It hits minority communities. They see it as politicians putting a bandaid on something silly to make it look like they give a sheet. A publicity stunt, while their infrastructure rots. It's a "we got bigger problems" thing. That would make a good conversation.
