imgur video?

Using the embed video button it says "imgur albums and gifv" - so I have to put a video in its own album to embed it?

Tried just using the direct link to the vid... no go. Also tried the embed code (which uses a js script) ... no go.

If it's possible to embed an imgur video in a post, please explain how! Thank you!

I've never used imgur for video... I didn't even know it did that. I thought it was just a quick anonymous way to upload stuff to the internet without the hassle of managing any accounts. I do see an option on there to convert a video to an animated gif. I can't believe that is all that great option, considering that there are many free ways to host a video on the internet in its native format.

I do know that youtube urls will definitely work. Youtube does require an account though.

ETA: an animated gif should work just using the bbcode link for the image, if thats what you are trying to do.

Yeah, it's someone else's video though. I've only recently started noticing vids on imgur so it must be fairly new.

I could download it then upload it to my youtube but I won't - it was just a cute short vid I wanted to share for morale in one of my threads.

If it's not possible, that's cool... altho it would be nice if it could get added as an embed option here. I'd just like to know for sure if it's possible or not.

I'll have to check and see if there's a way to embed imgur videos. It will definitely entail some fiddling under the hood. Stay tuned and we'll see what we can do.

After doing some digging, the software should automatically embed just by posting the link, but appears to be on the fritz. We'll take a look and see what's going on with things.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, after further digging, the video option for Imgur is not supported yet. Not sure if the addon author is going to include it or not. We'll keep an eye on it.

With Imgur you can create short clips from video sourced from youtube for instance. If the clip is small enough it will remain a .gif which can be embedded here as an image. If the clip is longer/larger it will be converted to a .webm You can then change the file extension on the URL to .gifv and this can be embedded as a media link.
