Hey folks, been about 7 months since I've been around. Its been a wild 7 months for me, lost my job, got a new (better) job, and now corona quarantine. Anyway, here goes.

1) I have not tried salt nic and I'm concerned about the flavor compared to freebase nicotine. I use a geekvape alpha tank and the flavors are spectacular to me. What differences should I expect?

2) I use 3mg nic and I love twist ejuice, so I ordered 35 mg salt nic in the same flavors and I'm curious how to convert from freebase to salts. I chain vape and I'm hoping to slow down on how much I vape (I've been burning through 60 ml a week lately) by changing to salts , but I'm concerned about getting to much nicotine.

3) Do y'all have any recommendations for brands/flavors similar to twist brand as far as quality?

Thanks in advance.

Hello @TexasOperator, from what I know of Salts. They're smoother so they can be used at higher levels as they don't have the throat hit of freebase, also they're more easily absorbed quickly into your system.

So they're kind of a double edged sword, as it's easier to end up nic sick from chain vaping. Depending upon mg/ml and device, as in you don't want to necessarily want to use 35 mg/ml salts with DTL and massive clouds. As things would get interesting quickly.

One idea I have heard around is to mix freebase and Salts together, so you use as high a level freebase as you can tolerate for throat hit and add extra salts to hit the levels needed to fix your Nicotine cravings.

But with vaping I definitely think that throat hit is extremely important.

That's mainly marketing @TexasOperator, any mod and atomiser can use nic salts. It's just you have to tailor the level to the amount of vapour produced. So the higher the mg/ml, the higher the ohm coil (nearer 1 ohm or more). As a 0.15 ohm coil with 35mg/ml would be like being hit in the face with a shovel with the Nicotine hit.

And with liquids it's not just components of the base that you can be sensitive to. It's also the other additives such as flavorings, sweeteners and such.

But PG is actually classified as an irritant though.

Personally I cannot use any liquid with melon flavorings as I end up with throat irritation to an infection, so I just avoid it now.

Yeah, I guess it could be one of the other ingredients. I only use sub ohm coils in my alpha tank. .2 ohm to be exact. Anyway, my alpha tank fill top release button has been opening up in my pocket and from the slightest touch, causing it to leak in my pocket. I wanted something smaller, more discrete, and less vapor production along with less juice use. I vaped a zenith tank (mtl) for quite a while and used half the juice I use with my alpha tank.

Well the Zlide is the latest Innokin option, it's another slide open tank but it uses the driptip to lock the tank. So it's better for carrying around, and there's a fair few coil options with it.

Aspire have recently released the Nautilus GT with Taifun, that has a quater turn to remove the top cap similar to the Taifun GTR. Yet again there's plenty of coils to choose from.

Thanks, I'll look into them. I've got the geekvape aigus boost in the mail right now on the way. Hopefully the reviews hold true and the flavor production is on point. I'm thinking of cutting nic salt flavor with something to get more out of each bottle. I don't mind a lighter flavor overall, but Im not sure if I should just get some pg/vg to mix in or get some 0 mg of the same flavors and mix the small bottle of nicsalt with the 60 ml bottle.

Dont know why, but I pictured getting hit in the face with a nicotine shovel, whatever that is. I do have the imagination of a 3 yr old sometimes.

@Captain Grey , to be honest, I'm not too concerned with cloud production or stealth. I am concerned with flavor production and juice consumption, but I reckon those 4 things probably have an effect on each other.

I also do really like the Aegis boost, but it is a little tricky to fill at times and the pod leaks. Its a really big bummer and really pisses me off because it wastes juice, I usually pop the pod out after I fill it and wipe down the pod and mod with a damp paper/towel and then dry. Flavor is good, but I swapped from 3mg freebase to 35mg salt. Their is a difference in flavor and throat hit. Im in the process of diluting the salt and will be trying to get tye harshness down.

Oh I'm certain that you'll notice a difference between 3mg and 35mg, no matter what you're switching from or to. Your body will tell you if you're getting too much nicotine.

So, I've been using salts for a few weeks now. The nicotine hasn't really affected me that I can tell. The taste is different, bit I can't attribute that to anything accept different mod and nic level. I like the flavor out of the aegis boost, but its harsh at times at 35 mg salts. I don't know if that is from the salt or from the higher nic lvl.

Salts to me do have something of a weird taste that is different from freebase, you may notice it or not. IDK. I didn't find the taste offensive but I did notice I like using freebase better.

I cannot tolerate more than about 10% PG I am sensitive to it, gives me pins and needles in my lungs which is unpleasant. I use PEG400 now not max VG and the flavor is SO MUCH better, PEG400 is more of a flavor carrier than PG.

I would just play around with them and see how you like them in various things at various levels.

If you don't like the taste of nicsalts it is not unusual for DL folks getting tired of the chain vaping and juice consumption to go to MTL setups and if you don't like pods nothing wrong with using your zenith tank I vape 19 mg freebase in MTL setups and I don't have much of a PG hit but it is certainly not difficult or whatever.

If you want to go much higher than say 24-28 mg/ml then maybe nic salts are in order. They aren't like puff the magic dragon or anything though they will not appear to solve all your problems. You'll just be needing to experiment.

    But good luck!

35mg of nicotine seems really high to me.
Which is ironic, because most of the American brands I've tried over the years have been mildish. Certainly not Gitanes or Rothmans strength.
Marlboro Red and Camel being a couple of exceptions.
The nicotine limit for ejuice in Europe, and set by the EU in 2016, is 20mg/ml. Many manufacturers only offer maximum strength of 18mg/ml.

The taste difference is probably from the nic level. Mods have next to no difference in taste, except for varying power levels that can affect the taste. Tanks (whether a RTA, a RBA, or a clearo) have more an effect on taste. Try lowering the wattage from the Aegis Boost, that may 'lower' the harshness somewhat.
