I just got a SID and built a couple coils tinkering around. Some of my coils are pulling a "short" reading on my LCD. That coil I have on there now is at 1.3 ohms with organic cotton wick and fires good most of the time. Every once and a while it says "Short".

Im using 30 awg Kanthal A1 with 7 wraps using a paper clip to make my coil. 1.3 ohm yesterday and now 1.2 ohm this am.

What causes a short?

The only thing I can think of is the conection between the screw and wire. Please help!

Can we have a picture of your coil?

Advice:
1) Make sure the coils are spaced well.
2) Make sure the tails are screwed into the posts well.
3) Make sure the coil is not touching the deck or lip of the base
4) Make sure the coil does not touch the lid when it is atteched
5) If you drop it, check the coil before using,

Does the resistence change if you push the coil a little then check the resistence? Maybe the screws need to be tightened? Or perhaps the coil you made was borderline resistance for use with your Sid so any slighlt fluctuation causes a low reading for being able to fire it.

That's about all I can think of off the top of.my head.
