I can only taste my vape liquid on the exhale?

I am not new to vaping but it’s been awhile for me. I’ve got a another Kangertech like I had back in 2016. I am not tasting my vape oil on the inhale though, only when I exhale. I have 0.5 coil in there and I am vaping at 45 watts currently. I used to buy this brand of vape oil back in the day and it was always good. But it just seems like something is not as good as it used to be. Is it Kangertech? I know that this is the third coil I’ve put in because both of the coils that came with the device were defective... Is there any way to improve this or is it normal? I just thought I remembered a much better flavor.

Are you using authentic kangar replacement heads?
The knockoff/counterfeit are not reliable.

Kangar makes many different 'tanks' and several .5 heads with various wire & coil types.
We'd need to know which you're using to help.

The replacement heads have a suggested watt range printed on them. Going over the max is usually a sure way to get to buy more heads.

Always best to thoroughly prime a new head / fully saturate the wicking material, then start off at a lower power level and gradually increase power over the first full tank.
This helps prevent scorching / burning the wicking material as the head ' breaks in'.

Sometimes e liquid recipes change, many times especially within a year or so after you quit smoking your sence of taste changes. In the first few months you may love an eliquid one week & find it unvapable the next.

Inhalation technique (MTL/DTL)& airflow plays a big part.

Hopefully you meant e liquid not oil.

Higher resistance usually is associated with lower airflow coil builds. You're more likely to hold the vapor in your mouth longer with a more mtl inhale. With a DL inhale it goes more into your lungs, and on the slower exhale more remains in your mouth and especially small amounts through your nose, and smell is intimately tied to taste.

Or maybe it's just the coils themselves. The above is speculation

The 1.2 & 1.5 heads are more for folks that like a restricted/tighter inhale draw / MTL.
My favorite kangar sub/top tank replacement heads were the .5 claptons. I didn't like the other heads at all compared to them.

48w is almost 20w more than I ever used for any of the sub/top tank heads. At that power you'll have to really move a lot of air through it to prevent scorching the wicking material.
Scorched wicking reduces wicking ability and greatly reduces flavor.
More power / higher watts does not mean more flavor.

If you have to use over 30w to get a good vape from an authentic kangar .5 head chances are something is wrong with your setup.
Could be anything from a dirty 510
connection issue to a malfunctioning power device.
Or it could be your scorching the wicking by using too much power too soon.

Clean out your tank, thouroughly clean the 510 connection points & threading.
Thoroughly pime a new head, install in base, fill tank let sit a few minutes.
Adjust power to around 18w, take a few vapes, not enough of something? Turn it up 2 watts, take few vapes, be sure to allow enough time for wicking to resaturate, still not what your looking for?
Turn it up 2 watts take a few vapes & repeat.

I remember now that I used to use Clapton coils too so I just ordered some. Are these the right ones? I think they are, just want to be sure. I am currently priming a new 0.5 coil to try. I didn’t start at a lower wattage last time either.

Just me, I wouldn't use amazon or eBay as a source for replacement heads, really anything vape related.
Too much chance of knockoff/fake products.

I agree when using a DTL inhale flavor on the inhale is greatly reduced due to the speed of the vapor traveling over taste sensors. On exhale flavor should be well defined.

Always start off a new head at a reduced power level.
Gradually increase power over the first at least half tank, full tank even better.
Drip drops of eliquid on all exposed wicking material until fully saturated, avoid dripping any into the center from the top (the hole without wicking) this is the airflow path.
May take 5 to a dozen drops depending on size of drops.

Flavor on the inhale has always eluded me. Whether it was DL or Mtl I just never got anything on the inhale.
Surprised this hasn't been brought up before here...

Our sense of smell is closely related to our sense of taste. You can better understand this concept when you have a cold and your nose is completely stopped up. You can't taste your food as well.

Our tongue has taste buds that can distinguish sweet, bitter, salty, sour and savory. Our nose has thousands of receptors that distinguish hundreds of different aromas, which in turn helps us to distinguish different flavors, too.

Exhaling at least part of your vapor through your nose should help you taste your flavors better in your vape.

Kanger OCC 0.5 is good for about 20-25 watts in truth.
Anything more repeatedly is going to burn the coil soon enough and probably have minimal taste anyway. Actually, they were fairly tasteless back in 2016... The Chinese have a special way of cutting corners (to save money) and reduce quality and expecting people not to notice... so they will be worse in 2019.

Sorry, but as much as I like Kanger for what they have done, they are way off the pace really in some things. Factory coils are one.

Like @djsvapour said, this is an old tech vape set you'r using right now.If you can afford the expense I suggest take a look at Kroma-A mtl Kit
You can do MTL with the 1.6 ohm coil
or restricted DL with the 0.8 ohm coil
Flavor will be improved compared to your current set up.

Cheers

No doubt about it. I dont really do it to get better flavor, it's just an old habit. I always exhale partly thru mouth and nose, but if I solely exhale thru mouth only, flavor is definitely diminished .
