I am looking into buying a mod. I have read on a few sites that sell them that they are for experienced users of mods. Not sure what that means. Is there something I need to know before I purchase a mod? Maybe a link to a thread here. IDK. Here is a link to a site that states what I am talking about. Sentinel M40 Starter Kit by Hcigar

You are looking at a mechanical mod (mech). It has no electronics for safety or power regulation like an APV. An APV is an advanced mod. As you vape on the mech the battery drains and looses power and produces less vapor. Don't stack batteries as this is a dangerous proposition unless you rotate and monitor battery conditions very carefully. Mech fans like the high voltage possible with a freshly charged battery. Mech power isn't used up by electronics, only the atomizing devise. Use the same batteries recommended by the vendor you linked for any mod, mechanical or APV.

It means there is no support for it as your link states. That means you had better understand what you use on top of it and what your battery limits are, and more importantly why.
It is a mechanical mod - so there are no electronics to help you out or troubleshoot any errors you may make. All mechanicals are like that - you typically make your own coils to suit the vape you like and the capabilities of your batteries.

My suggestion is that if you are not thoroughly familiar with Ohms law, and own a reliable multimeter to test these things, then you gravitate towards something regulated by electronics and there are hundreds to choose from.

None of the above is meant to be discouraging, it's just that mechanical mods require a lot more tinkering and messing with. In short, get some experience under your belt and good luck.

Actually, "Mod" is a catch all term and means different things to different people. It comes for the word modify and initially referred to early cig-a-like devices that were modified in some way to improve their performance. It was (and still is) often used for devices that are made by individuals - usually called "modders."

Most of the time when you see the word in the New Members or General forum it is referring to devices that have removable batteries, but sometimes people use it to describe any device more advanced than an eGo, or as yzer just posted, a mechanical mod. Lately, I've read posts where people are using it to describe any device more advanced than a cig-a-like.

ETA: Sorry, I didn't quite understand the OP's question. Feel free to ignore me. :)

ego-gt-e-cigarett.jpg1357208-1.jpg These are the units I am using now. The ego has 3 variable volt settings. The Swig automaticly sets the ohms depending on the cartomizer used , with variable voltage from 3.5 to 5.0 I posted my actual ones in the "what is your set up" thread. I really wanted to purchase something more "tough/dependable" so to speak.

Thanks DionR,
Looks like you are already for the extra work the Mech Mods require.
Was not sure, many folks just want to jump from cig a likes into the Mech Mod World,
"cause it looks cool".
With your set up, you already know about ohms, volts, watts, and battery safety.
Baditude already posted the high points....
Looks like a nice set,
Sentinel M40 Mechanical Mod Starter Kit by Hcigar
do not stray from the recommended battery set up, and stick a vape fuse in there.
Keep an extra eye on how the Mech Mod behaves, when you push the button, the atmo fires, no protective PCB, no time out...
Something comes up, post
Let us know how it goes.

Have this on my "wish list"
Celtic Cross Bagua Clone with 18650/18350 Tubes - Vapor Tek USA
as I already have the batteries and fuses,
checking further to make sure it will do the fuse plus battery..........

A great way to go when getting into Mechanicals is to get a Evolv kick 2. The kick 2 will turn a mech into a regulated VW device, accept builds from .5-3 ohms and can crank it up to 15 watts. I bought the Hcigar Nemesis and the Kick 2 when I first dived into the mech world. Still use the Kick on build over 1 ohm, provides a great consistent Vape.
