I have built a couple of mods with the help and guidance of the AWESOME people here.
Now I am just wondering... I can take batteries out of the mods and charge them, but how do I go about charging them inside the mod itself. Like on a regular ego/510 whatever?

assuming it's a simple 18650 3.7v unregulated mod.
I don't think it's as simple as just screwing the atty connector it into a matching power supply.. right? :p

Is there I guide I might have missed?

Thanks!

That's a possibility :)

The charger needs to be a Li-ion 4.2 volt charger. Absolutely must be.

Here's an example of a mod that has an ego type connector, not variable voltage, just a plain old 3.7 volts with a switch.

Hook it up to a eGo charger and rubber band the switch to charge.

EDIT: Seems I've already exceeded my quota for photos so use your imagination :)

Ok, so this is where I am at a loss... we can charge our various non mod batteries ego/510 etc via a usb cable plugged into a simple wall wart and hooked to the same connector the carto connects on, how is that done? Internal circuitry?

Actually yes, the ego charger has the circuitry built into it already. All you'd have to do is as Rocket says "rubber band the button down" to complete the circuit to the battery. I've gotten into the habit of just adding a 2nd 510 connecter direct wired to the battery terminals in most of my single cell mods. I've charged everything from 14500's (about the lowest I'd go with an ego charger) all the way to 26500's and 18650's with them.

If you want to charge an accumulator without removing it from e-cig body, you have 2 options:
1. You just place a 2-pole connector into e-cigarette body to connect your battery to a separate li-ion charger. Say, if you want to use standard eGo charger, you have to use connector from useless eGo battery or buy one as DIY.
2. If you want to charge your cigarette from a standard USB cable, connected to any computer USB or 5V AC adapter, you need a small charger board, inserted into e-cig body. Also you have to place a USB connector compatible with your cable into the body. For example I described my real assembly here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ck-boost-stick-based-happy-vaper-booster.html

Hope it helps.

I just put my alpha on my battery charger and it didn't work :(

:p

Sent from my flashback honeycomb gtablet

I don't know what does "alpha" mean, but suspect that it's just an accumulator with a button and maybe some kind of a DC-DC converter it one body. If so, and you just connect connector for atomizer to a charger, it surely will not charge because battery disconnected from charger. You need a separate connector exactly from battery poles. And also it's construction should be safe from an accidental short by metallic objects.
If you want to use the same connector for atomizers and charge, you can solder a schottky diode to override the problem, but accumulator will be always a little undercharged. This is not a big trouble - I think, eGo batteries undercharged too because they get charging voltage via internal board.
I prefer second system with charger inside body - safer and more reliable.

that's really cool. like a secondary port only for charging. Great idea :)

The eGo circuit board (inside the eGo) has a "Charge Mosfet". When the eGo "Brain chip" detects a voltage at the center pin it turns on the charge mosfet (flashes a few times to tell you it is in charge mode). The Mosfet is a low resistance "switch". It drops less than a tenth of a volt while charging hard, and almost nothing at the end of the charge.

Try it. put more voltage than the battery (discharged somewhat) and the eGo will flash "I am Charging" :)

A simple mod without a "Brain" or a Regulator will charge when the switch is pressed (or held down with a rubber band).

Cleared out my pictures, now I have room to post.

Your Welcome.

I was going to make a dual voltage variation of one of my boxes with a momentary SPDT rocker.
eGo circuit board on one pole, straight 3.7 on the other. The eGo trigger grounds an input line to the Brain chip. Not a big problem,
but when the power is applied to the output it thinks it's in charge mode, flashes 4 times.

This really won't be a problem either as the 3.7 volt cell voltage would not conduct back to the accumulator (equal voltage) but four flashes every time you vape is just weird :)

About pressing switch by a rubber o-ring - ha-ha! Great design :D

I was putting an extra 510 connector in my mods so I could "charge and vape".
Makes sense for a mod with a "small" 18650 accumulator, but why bother with a 26650 :)
So I just keep one on charge, and vape the other.

The eGo charger ONLY takes about 15 hours to charge a 26650 :)
