Higher resistance atomizer in a sub ohm tank?

Just wondering if it is possible and safe to use a higher ohm atomizer in a subohm tank?

Safe, yes.

So far, have used 1.4 to 1.8 ohm coils of my own making in the Subtank mini and nano and vaping at a Tootle Puffing 9 to 10 watts. I'm happy.

Many MFGs make non-sub ohm coils for their tanks, so you can easily find these. Just keep it at a lower wattage or you may ruin and or burn the coil and cotton.
The suggested wattage is engraved on a lot of the sides of the coils.

All the Kanger Toptanks/Subtanks have pre-made coils available from .15ohms all the way to 1.5ohms. I use 1.2 or 1.5 ohms exclusively in my Toptanks and Subtanks and run them at 16w and I'm very satisfied with the flavour and vapour production.

It is actually safer.

The lower the resistance, the greater the stress on your battery. Many batteries these days can handle low subohm builds with no problem, of course, but that doesn't change the fact that a higher resistance build/coil will tax your internals less.

Yes, definitely. Many subohm tanks are designed to do so. Others, however, are not. The problem is, subohm tanks breathe a lot better than MTL tanks. If you start putting high coils in them, the vapor stream gets swamped in the air flow and you lose the flavor. So, if you can close down the air enough to make it reasonable, yes, you can.
