Help with menthol crystals, I dont know the right procedure

Hi all and thank you for taking your time to view this post.

I want to mix Wizard labs menthol crystals and on their website they recommend 1gram crystals to every 10ml of liquid (PG).

I am confused if this means that I am crushing the crystals into powder then measuring that 1 gram, or basically just using the crystals as is in crystal form to measure.

I know that gram is weight and whatnot, but how much of the crushed product would i be putting in volume wise? I dont own a scale.

I also dont know if the 1gram to 10ml of liquid measurement is what everyone else is using, as i typically dont follow % recommendations from vendors / merchants

I've mixed my menthol at about 33% grams / ml pg, or roughly 6 grams menthol and 15ml pg. I remember reading somewhere it was recommended to just fill the bottle with crystals and add pg until its full. I dont think it matters too much, but the stronger you make it, the less you'll need. I make it strong since I want max vg in my mixes.

Heck, I don't know the proper procedure, I just do it the way I've always done it.

I take a clean old Halo bottle and fill it 2/3 to 3/4 full of crushed menthol crystals. Then I take a bottle of 190 proof Everclear and pour some in a shot glass. I take the dripper from another old Halo bottle and suck up some PGA. Squirt that into the pile of menthol. Cap. Shake. Keep adding squirts until it starts looking like the crystals are getting transparent. Then I go to a few drops at a time between each shake. When the crystals just dissolve, I have my menthol flavoring.

Left over in the shot glass is then swallowed and then I get some nice bourbon to wash it down.

Modify as you wish, but that's my process.

so i borrowed a friends scale, i weighed exactly 3 grams into a 30ml bottle and filled 30 ml of PG into it.

It works, i can taste it in my mix of lemon + menthol. But i had to use around 6% of my mix worth of menthol which I also heavily favor VG. So I think im just going to dump a crap load more crystals in the 30ml bottle and see what happens so that i can use much less PG in my mixes. thanks for the responses guys

What if you don't vape pg. can this be done with VG as well or distiller water? Is this the same menthol used as a pharmaceutical to inhale? So this is 100percent safe?

Reason is, I know longer vape flavoring. Too many unknowns there. So this seems like a perfect option for me. I do not want a strong menthol though. I just want a light hint since I vape at roughly 100 watts and lung hit.

I make mine into a 10% solution as was posted around here somewhere.

1 gram of crystals per 10 ML of PG ... warm the bottle under running water and shake until dissolved.

For me it works out well. I use it at about 5% with unflavored and it's a nice light menthol flavor.

I fill a 30ml bottle half full of crystals then fill it up with PG. I use that mix at 1ml per 30ml of juice to give a nice plain menthol.

I like Hoosier's method, I may add the shot of bourbon at the end too.

You can either weigh the crystals as they are and dump them in a bottle - need to use warm water to heat the base to dissolve the crystals (they can be stubborn). You can weigh then crush the crystals, this makes dissolving them in the base easier but you sill still need to warm it. 1 gram to 10ml is gonna be a pretty strong menthol taste and i suspect that this may be used to add a few drops to another liquid rather than vape it as it is? As for what 1 gram will look like in a 10ml bottle, well that will depend on the size of the crystals. Use kitchen digital scales, not the most accurate but won't be far off. Crystals and PG/VG are cheap so a little experiment may be in order - just don't mix up 100ml the first time I've added a visual reference in the event that you really don't have anything to weigh them on. This is approximately one gram of menthol crystals when they are that size.

Yepper---I add that to straight unflavored to make my menthol mix. 5% of the total works right for me.

Just made a batch adding 1 gram crystals to 10ml pg and used a hot water bath to speed dissolving in a glass 20ml bottle. Then added half ml of that to 10ml of 70/30 pg/vg. Seems exactly as I bought for $4 from B&M for 10ml. Got the crystals from ebay vendor for $5 for ounce delivered. Sure helps clear the nose being plugged with all the spring problems. 9 cents worth of crystals should make over 100ml.

I used a 60 ml bottle, put 1 gram/10ml PG, so 6 grams/60ml PG - 1 level teaspoon crushed crystals is right at 6 grams. When you use crushed crystals, they dissolve pretty rapidly, just shake the bottle a few times, letting it set a few mins, then shake a few times again.
