Hello Khan and Welcome to ECF,

I have no intention to cause offense so forgive me if I inadvertently do. I have a little knowledge of Halal, Haram and Mushbooh.
Some flavour concentrates have a trace amounts of alcohol. I would suggest you go directly to the Flavour Art site and also The Flavor Apprentice site to see exactly what your chosen flavours contain, they are not Halal though. Both companies have info sheets for all their products.

With regard to PG and VG, both are available as Kosher, I think it would be best to go to your local independent Halal chemist and ask them if they can source Halal VG/PG, chains like Boots and Lloyds etc. will not provide you with PG, they do not carry the product and will not order it in for you.

All chemists in the UK stock VG sold as Glycerine BP in the cough mixtures aisle. Today the process involved in making VG (Pharma Grade) is synthetic and is not derived from animal by-products but is claimed to be an alcohol-related substance on a molecular level but only due to the sugars therein, as far as I am aware VG does not actually contain alcohol.
As I understand it, Food Grade VG falls within the Moshbooh category probably because Food Grade VG does not have the same level of purity and does not require the same standard of manufacture as VG produced specifically for pharmaceutical use. It is probably best to speak with your local Chemist preferably one with knowledge of Islam.

We do have an Arabic Forum, when you get your five posts you can post there too, with some members living in the Middle East and the Gulf and some possibly being of the same Faith, I'm sure they would all be more than willing to help you.

Best of luck in your endeavors. I sincerely hope you find the answers you are looking for.

Guys and Girls,

I want to start vaping, but the eliquid has to be halal.

I want to DIY my own eliquid. Can somebody please point me in the right direction as where i can buy the halal ingredients from e.g. flavoring, VG\PG, base nicotine?

Look forward to your help\advice.

Thanks alot

Hey man !.

Not sure if this helps but try "paradise vape uk" they provide "kosher" and "halal" ready made e liquids.

Welcome to the Forum, and I hope You venture in to vaping is rewarding, as mentioned above I know there are alot of Kosher juices, and flavor concentrates out there. Only being vaguely familiar with both kosher and halal I am not sure how the equate to each other. But as also mentioned above once you have 5 posts You can ask in another section which probably will be a bit more helpful.

Peace Be With You

I was not aware there was alcohol in the liquid till now. I am also interested in this. I have a brick and mortar store closeby who claim they do not use alcohol, but I am not sure how true that is. I have also been doing some research and found that the absolute line at virgin vapor does not contain alcohol.

Propylene glycol is a colourless odorless organic compound which is sometime used as a solvent in food colours and flavours. Commercially, it is either derived from propylene oxide, or from glycerol. If it is derived from propylene oxide then it would be permissible. However if it is derived from glycerol then it is possible that glycerol was obtained from hydrolyzing process for animal fats and oils. If this ingredient is from animal slaughtered in halal way, then it will be halal for consumption, otherwise it will not be halal.

VG used in e-liquid is pharmaceutical grade (or should be) and in that case, it's usually synthetic.

Does PG or VG contain Alcohol? meaning:
an intoxicating liquor containing this liquid.
No it does not contain any intoxicating liquor or spirits.
Nor will you get drunk from use, nor will you become an alcoholic and if stopped whilst driving and vaping and are subjected to a Breathalyser test you will not fail it because you are vaping PG or VG juice.

Then why the confusion one might ask.
Because VG and PG are Chemicals. They are not foods, although both are used in food products as well as a lot of Medicines and Toiletries, in fact almost all our day to day products including manufactured foods have had some kind of contact with either one.

And when we look at the Molecular make up of PG, we see that C3H8O2has Two hydroxyl groups (—OH groups). This means it contains the compound called a Diol (a double alcohol), which in nature are sugars and their polymers, cellulose.
This is what they are known as in Science. In science the word Alcohol is a Classification of Compounds. PG is a synthetic product and VG today is largely the same.

Both products are available as Halal and Kosher. On this basis alone, I cannot understand why Khan states they are deemed Haram, but then again it depends on how Literal one chooses to be. Whilst at the same time one could argue Cigarettes are deemed Haram, yet Islamic nations have not banned the use of Tobacco.

It's my understanding ECF was created for like minded individuals to find out more about electronic cigarettes and Tobacco Harm Reduction. In my opinion we are not here to Judge others on ethical, moral or religious grounds and I don't think ECF is the place for making others feel uncertain about using electronic cigarettes (on moral/religious grounds) when none of us know Exactly what chemicals were used in the manufacture and production processes of Tobacco Cigarettes and still smoked them.:2c:
