Hi I just recently bought an Aegis mod and I heard that you can do a firmware upgrade. when I checked the geek vape web page there a 3 available firmware.

1. is firmware upgrade necessary?

2. do I need to do an upgrade for each firmware or I can just skip and update it directly to the latest firmware(v1.23a)?

your reply is really appreciated
thank you

Hey thank for the warm welcome.

by the way how's the performance of v1.23a?
can you revert back to stock firmware?
Unfortunately i don't have the aegis mod (wish i did) so idk how's the update but i think you can revert (again something i haven't done so not sure here).

I don't upgrade the firmware on any mod. I've seen too many dead/ruined mods messing with a flakey technology.
Buy the right mod, use it, buy another when it breaks or you won on the horses.
Seriously, I avoid this rediculous gimmick. I would only consider it with a partly non functioning mod or one that now had 'real' life' improvements.

I've used firmware updates or third party apps on every device I have that allows it. The first thing i do after trying out a new device is check the firmware version. If it's not the latest, it gets it.

I'm a tinkerer. I like "good" but I want to see if it gets "better."

While I'd usually agree with the people who say 'don't bother upgrading unless you have a problem or want a new feature', the Aegis seems to be an exception. There's a thread elsewhere suggesting that the V1 firmware is actually unsafe:

Geek Vape Aegis. Urgent Update Needed.

In this case, I'd say you do need to upgrade. As others have said, you can just grab the latest version of the firmware and ignore the intervening updates.

First, if your mod is working fine, then you don't HAVE to do a firmware update. There have been many times I've not updated because I don't use the features that the updates modified. If it's not broken, don't fix it. :) I'm sure you've seen this, but the updates and what the updates fix are here. If you look at that page, the original firmware is available as well, so you and "downgrade" back to the original. Even though it doesn't say, I can only guess that each update includes the changes of previous versions, but that is just a guess since that's how most firmwares operate.

CHANGED:

If there is a safety feature, then definately upgrade.

Firmware 1.21, 1.22, 1.23, and 1.24 are pure junk! They all cause TC in some cases to be wavy. 1.0 works wonderful in TC. Just don't disconnect a hot TC coil and reconnect it. You shouldn't be doing that anyway, so says PBusardo 4 years ago. Today he shows you to do it, that is so wrong PBusardo!

Never experienced any of that. TC on my aegis has been consistently smooth with tanks as well as RDAs in all firmware versions so far.

You may have a different experience, for whatever reasons, but to tell people not to install security updates because of that is just wrong.

I'm curious, where does Phil instruct you to do that?

What security updates? It doesn't connect to the Internet and there is no way anybody is going to hack into it without having it in their hand.

Yes it works under some conditions. I thought I had it working under SS316L until I tried another Aegis mod and that one would do it. I have three Aegis and it will do it with some mods and not others. But the other mods you can see it happen under other conditions, but doesn't happen under other ones.

Now I have 1.0 on all three again and I can't get any of them to act up at any time. Maybe in a day or two I might find that 1.0 does it too. But so far I have never seen it yet.

I'm curious, where does Phil instruct you to do that?

In one of his early TC videos. Probably in 2014. He was still learning about TC back then and called it temperature guessing. It was more like Busardo guessing really. Then he learned if you put on a hot coil on a TC mod, it sees the resistance as cold resistance. Yeah no kidding Busardo! Then it runs the coil too hot. So he said never do that. Let the coil cool down to room temperature first.

I may have used the wrong word, I'm not a native speaker. Nevertheless I think it's quite obvious what I meant, no need trying to portray me as a complete doofus.

There are important safety updates in some of those versions. Happy now?

Where? I've seen no evidence of him telling you to do that and you didn't provide any.

Besides the yes/no coil thing, there was no other safety updates. Geek Vape had a list of all of the changes in all of the firmware versions and they just had removed them like a week or so ago. I checked with the WayBackMachine and they never achieved a copy of it. But there was really nothing there to worry about from what I remember.

So you claim there are safety updates. Okay what are they? Let's see how important they are.

Oh that, he showed people to take off a hot coil and put it back on in his Aegis video. I thought every Aegis user saw that one. He gave the Aegis a thumbs down. But he also gave the DNA40 a thumbs down too.

The Aegis should be upgraded to 1.24 to include all safety related changes.
What are these safety related changes? Show them to us and we will believe you. Otherwise you only believe and have no evidence whatsoever.

Look if Geek Vape really believed nobody should be using v1.0, they surely wouldn't be shipping every Aegis with v1.0. Nor would they have v1.0 available for download on their website either.
