So I just recived a Dark Horse Clone by Tobeco today. I didn't clean it/wash it before I put some coils in and started ripping. I just read apost about machine oil possibly being on things when you by them, and now I swear I can taste something weird.
I don't have anymore Kanthal or cotton, but I am just wondering if it WAS machine oil, would be it a definitely noticeable taste, or could it just possibly be me not being used to the rda itself?

Thanks for any feedback!

Take the atty off, Take the cotton out and wash it. Dry it, dry burn it and you're good to go. No reason to take the coil out to wash it under water.
Most likely machine oil

edit: just read about the no cotton either. You don't have a walgreens nearby to get some organic cotton? or a Sally's for rayon?

That crap taste funky for real.

I accidentally did that oce. Got a splitting headache as well.

Not good dude it will stick around for a long time too. Tainting every wick, most cases you can't just vape it away

Ya I got a hella bad headache too so Im guessing that must be what it is. Thanks all.

Machine oil, release agents, who knows what else.

I have until now washed and soaked my new stuff in vodka, but lately I have come to see my new ultrasonic cleaner as a vaper's best friend. A little water, a drop of Dawn, run it a few cycles, everything's squeaky clean.

I have some Q tips i might be able to just boil the cotton from them?

Q-tips are generally thought of as some of the "cleanest" cotton you'll find, and more than one vaper has used a Q-tip for vaping, successfully.

If you happen to have some way of shaking/agitating the atomizer in the solution (like one of those capped plastic water bottles) it will definitely help. And be sure to do the same in clean hot water once or twice afterwards. Dish soap doesn't vape well, either, lol.

I will definitely make sure to rinse it WELL with hot water before I vape it. I can only imagine the taste of vaping soap lol

91% isopropyl here. I don't keep food grade alcohol on hand either. I just give them an alcohol bath for about an hour, swishing it around in the glass every 15 min or so. If it's really bad (as I had to do with my Darkhorse Tobeco clone) I use a toothbrush as well to scrub it w/ alcohol & then give it the aforementioned alcohol bath.

Comes out clean as a whistle. I may invest in a sonic cleaner though .. those are pretty darn cool.

Ive never had ANY oil on a new RDA. I guess im lucky. I inspect amd smell them and havent ever noticed/smelt a drop.

Anyways if your out of organic cotton just use a normal cotton ball Til you get around to getting more KGD or OC. If your so inclined you can boil them a couple times. Taste isnt as good as kGD but its barely there.
