Agree with NancyR unless OP meant silica wick. Used Cotton once on one of the earlier version Stardusts and there was a noticeable improvement. Considering using cotton for all future rewicking.
'Soreness in the nose and throat can result when fibers are inhaled. Asthma and bronchitis can be aggravated by exposure to fiberglass.
Temporary stomach irritation may occur if fibers are swallowed."
Fiberglass Fact Sheet

Because fiberglass breaks across the fiber to form tiny fragments, the tissue response is very different when these particles are inhaled. When fiberglass fragments are inhaled and deposited in the small air sacs of the lung, the alveoli do not close up and trap the particles. The particles are expelled from the alveoli and there is a rapid clearance of fiberglass dust particles from the lungs.
However, fiberglass presents other problems-such as irritations of the eyes, skin, or respiratory tract.
The primary hazard associated with fiberglass is the chemicals used during the fabrication or lay up process. Styrene monomer, or raw resin, is catalyzed with an organic peroxide; the most common is methyl ethyl ketone peroxide. Cobalt compounds, often used as accelerators, can result in allergic dermatitis or asthma like conditions.

Regarding fiberglass irritation try rubbing some fiberglass on your arm- burning and itching will ensue - imagine how your lungs and throat would feel- wash off with milk to remove fiberglass shards. The main issue with fiberglass irritation is that the strands don't break off but shards/ sharp pieces of the strands do.

I think all the ecigs are using fiberglass or silica (except genesis style that use SS mesh).

What are you suggesting guys for replacing these materials?

Nightdream if you look at the link I gave above you will find many options, I personally use only cotton or ss mesh

Cotton is the one that it will first get burnt when the liquid is out and then it
will go directly to our lungs.

All the famous ecig companies (like joyetech) are using fiberglass or silica in their atomizers.
Also all the repairable atomizers are using the same as above (except genesis).

Mesh is surely a good choice.

Not all rebuildables use it, premade wicks do yes, but well many of us use cotton with no issues at all.

And you shouldn't be vaping anything til it is dry. But if you had looked at the tread you would have seen they talked about the burning issues and even came up with a cotton/mesh wick.

And as far as all the major companies are doing it, 50 years ago you could say all the major paint companies used lead in their paints too, that didn't make it healthy for you,

Till you discover which manufacturer makes it and if they anneal it and with what :)

The only disadvantage I found with a cotton wick was I couldn't dry burn it but it wicked far better than the silica.

I would rather inhale a small amount of burnt cotton which is fairly harmless than take the chance of having slices of fiberglass or silica getting stuck in my lungs! It's pretty easy to ensure that your wick is moist and on the rare occasion it is not the small amount of cotton smoke doesn't bother me.

It's OK guys!
Everyone is buying the wick that believes it's better for his own reasons! :)

Noone is vaping anything til it is dry , but if it accidentally happens , then he will be searching where the cotton wick gone!

As for the paints: We don't vape them! just kidding!

So, NancyR , we may one day see all the big ecig companies that use fiberglass going to jail , for causing serious health damages to thousands of vapers ?

Just saying my opinion. I don't want to make a brawl, friends.

It is all good my friend. We just want to point out the *potential* harm of using fiberglass and to a lesser extent silica. Knowledge is power. If you are educated with knowledge then you can make your own decisions (which you have done). :)
