I have been vaping for almost 3 months now. Afraid I am going to have to stop do to the hard time I am having catching my breath. I don't know why but I know for sure it is from vaping. I read this article yesterday and decided it was my chain vaping. Cut way down, stopped using my favorite juice and no more chain vaping. Still hard to catch my breath sometimes and is scary. I love to vape and have a fortune invested, but am afraid I am going to have to quit.

I would disagree, it is a coincidence. There are thousands of people on ECF and only three have reported "excessive yawning". Seems pretty coincidental to me.

If you are concerned about your yawning--because yawning is normal and usually related to fatigue (though there are other causes), I would suggest seeing a doctor.

I would say that in all likelihood what you are experiencing is your lungs clearing out the gunk you put into them whilst smoking and that the yawning is one method by which your body is using to open up the alveoli in your lungs. I find myself coughing frequently, usually producing tar in the sputum--totally related to smoking cessation. That said your yawning may be an indication of a heart condition (which only a doctor can diagnose), but yawning itself is more closely linked to fatigue, "social yawning" (yawning after other people have yawned), and boredom.

I quit smoking in September of 2006. I dout my lungs are clearing of anything. I quit vaping almost 12 hrs ago and still have shortness of breath. I will keep you up to date as to how long it takes off vaping before I feel normal.

If you google search "nicotine yawning" you'll find that, oddly enough, excessive yawning has been related to both nicotine overdose (you'd want to lower your strength) and nicotine withdrawal (the opposite, obviously).
BTW, compulsive yawning and inability to catch one's breath also often accompany anxiety/panic attacks (psychotherapist here). If you're generally anxious, that could be happening.
I noticed this thread because when I was trying patches I started at a too-high strength; for me that involved a very uncomfortable sort of tight-jawed yawning, and breathlessness, and all the other jittery yucky stuff that goes with mild nic overdose.
That said, of course you should see your doc if it continues. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. This makes perfect sense. I knew it had to do with vaping. It had too. I went to my doc today. I have seen her 3 times since I started vaping. I am certainly freeking out about the health affects of vaping. Gone mostly to unflavored nic with worries that the flavor is the culprit. The last 3 days I was doing only mouth inhales without the lungs and it didn't help much. Now I know it was the over nicking. I noticed it starting when I fell in love with my vmod bottom feeder with the low resistance coil. Very effecient delivery system and 15 mg nic.

Anyway, my doc sent me to the Pulmonary Specialist and went through all the tests today. All is normal. She told me to go back to the niccorette gum because not enough is known about ecigs.

I knew I would get my answer here on ECF if the right person saw my post. THANKS!!!

Ok. Now I feel pretty smart as to what can go wrong health wise vaping. I started with a mini ecig like I would imagine most of us did. Went right to my pro vari and DIY from there within a week. Not up to speed on voltage and coils, I burnt my throat or the pg just did it in. Went right to VG only for a short period. My throat was better and has been since. But my flavor was lost when I did away with the pg. So I have been vaping about a 50/50 mix for a while now. Last night I searched and studied how to know what the right mg/ml of nic is for each of us. This is obviously very different for all of us do to our e cigarette of choice and how often and HOW we use it. For me, 15mg was too strong at 1st in my genesis atty. But put that same juice in my carto tank with a 2 ohm coil and I can vape it all day. I have many different delivery systems that I like for different reasons. I think i own every type of ecig on the market at this point. I have an addict personality and love to vape. That being said, I know now that if I want to use my favorite bottom feeder or my Joyetech eGo-C, Changeable System that I probably better have 8mg/ml juice in it or I will be over nicking myself. On the other hand my less efficent single coil carto tanks can handle the 15mg/ml juice and I will be just fine.

The last thing I am dealing with is the calf cramps in my legs. I hope all the info on lactic acid build up from pg is the cause because I am going to try vg only again. I hate to do it because I know the flavor suffers. Is there anything I can do to not loose my flavor when using 100% vg?

The last note is that if the yawning is truly caused by nic overdose, why am I not getting the normal headaches that I got after chewing too much nicotine gum in a short period of time?

Tonight I finally got the nerve to pull my clean VMOD off the shelf. I put a fresh 1.5 ohm atty in it. It has been sitting idol since this whole yawning thing started. I took my 50/50 unflavored 15mg nic and cut it down to 8mg with straight VG. After an hour I am feeling a little nic buzz. This atty is breaking in real nice. A few yawns still coming, but at least I can finish them. Not the dreaded yawn that you just can't catch. That is what was scary. Always reaching for that yawn or breath I just couldn't finish. The throat hit and flavor of this unflavored 75%vg is so right. I am living the dream.
