Does the Mod make a difference ?

Hi all

I new here on the forum & fairly new to vaping. I have to say I LOVE vaping & love not smoking even more. I started out with an Eleaf Pico with the Melo 3 mini. Its great, I've been enjoying it a lot. But like any hobby I have been researching & learning and have purchased another tank (Aspire Cleito). And now I've just got my hands on a Cartel Revenant 160 mod. Lets be honest, I will never vape at 160 or even close to that. Likely won't try temp control either. In no way do I need anything that pricey. I really just loved how it looked and had to have it, she's beautiful. I guess what I'm asking is: Is performance enhanced more by the mod? Or more by the tank & coils you choose? I think it gives a way better vape than the Eleaf at the same wattage with the same tanks. I'd love to hear some thoughts.

In temp control mode, yes. For sure. For example, anyone here will tell you DNA boards are fantastic for temperature control, while many others are not. I personally have no experience as I'm strictly a wattage vaper at the moment.

When it comes to wattage mode, I believe there are some devices out there that are more accurate than others. Meaning that some are actually delivering the wattage displayed while others might be off by a fraction. But all this is just things I seem to remember reading here when I was first starting out. I could be way off the mark.

Also, be careful saying things like "I will never vape at 160 or even close to that". When I first started vaping back in August, I told myself I was only going to stick to eGo batteries and low wattage vaping (8-10W max). Seven months later, I now own 9 mods, 17 atty's, build my own coils, make my own liquid and mainly vape between 30 and 40 watts. Before you realize it, you'll just start snowballing into the world of vaping, lol.

I get what you mean about never say never. I'm checking into the world of DIY juice. I think I'm going to give it a go in the near future. I've got my eye on a few atty's I'd like to try. I've costed it out and I've still spent less in the last few months than I did on cig's even with all the gear & juice I've been buying. Bonus cause I actually have some cool new stuff to show for it and I feel so much better than when I smoked a pack a day. Oh the snowball has started.

It is my belief that the tank/atomizer and the coil+wicking inside have a larger effect on your vaping experience than the mod does.

Shortly after getting into vaping I moved to RTA's. While there are a wide spectrum of tanks available it was always mentioned that a RDA has the best flavor. I tried 'squonking' on a RDA and sure enough the flavor was out of this world.

However I'd have to say the biggest change in my vaping came with moving from pre-built/factory coils/atomizers to ones I build myself. The quality control (or lack there of) then rested firmly on my own shoulders rather than some no-name factory in China.

I used a uwell crown on my kbox160 and now my Smoant Battlestar and vape at 40-50 watts. They hit way harder/better than my aspire Pegasus does at 70watts(the max). While the tank and coil can/do have a huge effect so does the mod. I don't know if it's just because the Battlestar and kbox are dual 18650's while the Pegasus is a single, but the batteries were charged full on all and they hit different.

The mod is just a power supply.

Yes, some mods work better than others. Especially with regulated devices.

Yep.
They deliver power differently.
Its not magic.

Chipped mods use PWM to deliver power while mechs deliver a pure "smooth" current. Its very noticeable.

With regulated mods all using different chipsets and internals the end result is a different experience.

I have MOD's from 40 Watts to 250 Watts with a few DNA MOD's also. I find it makes no difference as long as you set the settings correctly you will get the vape you are seeking. DNA boards may have more to play with but a regular TC MOD can deliver the same performance if set up correctly.

The most important variable is knowledge. That comes only so fast because it needs to be backed up by experience and that is best measured in years. I would classify myself as an advancced beginner. You don't need to know a whole lot if, for instance, you're satisfied with the vape you get from a nautilus mini at 10 watts and commercial juice. That would describe a brother of mine except I mix for him. If you want to nix and reguild you need to know more and get some practiced skills, but not much more.

An accurate ohm meter costs more than most mods.

The cheap ones used in mods or sold to vapers are not accurate (most even state this on the paperwork).

This is one reason experienced vapers recommend leaving some "headroom" when building close to your battery's limits.

@Who_Dey_1991 This is so true! I quit smoking on an Aspire Nautilus and I thought "this is all I will need". Then I discovered how much more flavor was present in the rebuildable attys, and then it really did just snowball from there.
I will say, in reference to OP's @JavaJ question, that if I use the same RDTA (Limitless Gold) on my Reuleaux 2/3 (in 3 battery configuration) and my Lost Vape Triade DNA 250, there is a perceivable difference in the quality of vape at the same wattage with the same build. I do have two Cartel Revanant Mods and primarily use RDA's on those but everything I've read and the reviews I've seen coupled with my experience says the OMNI chips are really accurate. Cheers

Just need a MOD that can deliver enough power to the atomizer because you can't use an iStick 20 on a tank like a Baby Beast. Well you could but I doubt you would get favorable results.

Big differences between mods. How the power is distributed and at an accurate amount makes a lot of difference. Can the mod be dropped and still have the structure to not take any internal damage.

Just like a car; there are some that get from point a to point b...for a while. Then there are others that are a smooth ride.

I feel it's atomizer, wiretype then mod. And how the mod handles heat and how cheap it was made. I noticed the pulsing in tc on my rx 2/3 and it's virtually gone on my tesla steampunk. The move from standard round wire to clapton also was an improvement.

Same thought but would also add your juice will also have more affect than the mod.

In wattage mode, I can use the same tank & juice on my three mods and each mod will have a different wattage "sweet spot" BUT I can find that spot on each mod. I can also use my two different tanks with the same juice on each mod and not get identical flavor/cloud between the tanks regardless of wattage.

To me the mod matters to a point when only using wattage mode. Run time being the most important to me looks also being up there too as well as durability. As long as I can adjust the power to get the experience I want I don't really care to much about what wattage it's at.

Both are a means to an end.
I say buy the highest quality mod you can afford.
Then go with the best build quality atomizer you can find.
I started with ego-c vaping around 5 watts. 7 years later I am vaping at 100 watts on a Lost Vape Duo with a Merlin RDTA. I could easily see 160 watts in my future.
