Recently got a carto tank for Christmas I'm trying to give a fair shot. Filling it is driving me insane lol...

So I'm considering getting a refilling drip tip. It just looks as if it would just flood the carto so how does it work?

Your experience using one? Worth it? My caps are so tight I cannot simply slide them, i have to take a knife to the tank every single time the carto tank needs a refilling.

You are doing it all wrong! Drip tips are used with cartotanks only as a mouthpiece, NOT as a filling tool. The following video demonstrates the proper way to fill a cartotank. In short, the pre-punched carto (with holes in the carto) is primed or filled with juice prior to its insertion into the tank. The cotton-like polyfill needs to look like a slushy drink. A neat trick that I use in addition is to place a wooden tooth pick into the center air hole - you don't want e-liquid getting in there.

Once filled, the carto is lubricated with a little of e-liquid and inserted halfway into the assembled tank. As in the video, tilt the tank and carto slightly while you fill the tank between the carto and the top endcap of the tank, again taking care to not drop e-liquid into the center air hole of the carto. Fill the tank until it is about 75% full. Then push the carto further up into the tank, and place a snug-fitting drip tip into the top of the carto.

A tank tool such as the Slap Yo Momma tank accessory tool from Big Daddy Vapor helps with the insertion of the carto into the tank, keeps e-liquid from getting into the air hole, and its most important function is to protect the o-rings that are in the end caps from the sharp edges of the carto. A PBusardo Review - Slap Yo Mama Multi-Purpose Adapter - Big Daddy Vapor - YouTube

_______

Trying to fill the tank as you were, with the top cap off, will cause the carto to flood when pressing the top cap onto the tank. Cartotanks feed the punched cartos because of negative pressure created when you inhale from your drip tip. There is a sudden and excessive increase of air/liquid pressure in the tank when the top is applied in the manner that you were attempting, and the excessive amount of e-liquid has no place to go but into the cartomizer, causing the carto to flood. Not good.

The method showed in the video is simple to learn; one just needs to follow the steps in the proper order. The tank filling tool in the link I provided aids greatly in this process, and is highly recommended.

Just to add to the above information. Drip tips got their name as a device vapors used on top of their drip atomizers. In this case, yes drip tips are used to add e-liquid for dripping. However, dripping atomizers and cartomizers are two different things. Drip tips are used simply as a mouthpiece for a cartotank.

Just to clairify I am asking about this:

https://www.ibtanked.com/accessories/black-anodized-refilling-drip-tip-detail

I do normally just use a regular drip tip as a mouth piece.

My tank is so tight, I can't even do that method. It's no joke tight. Even lubricated. I literally, HAD(I should say, the caps broke and now I have to buy new caps. Going with metal) to use a knife to slowly loosen the top cap and add liquid. Trying to put the tank on through the bottom of the cartomizer? Absolutely impossible. The ONLY way I have been able to get caps on the cartomizer is by putting a drip tip on the cartomizer, then putting the bottom cap on first with very intense force over the drip tip(caps would not go on over cartos), then attach the tube, and do the same for the top cap. If that made any sense. Maybe I got a bad batch of caps. I really, REALLY hope I do not have this issue when I get new caps. Caps broke from cinnamon juice, I expected this. Silver lining, maybe I could actually attempt that method now since the caps will move.

Even my 6ft3 200 and something pound brother could not get the cap to correctly go onto a carto. Yes, I lubed them.

I'm sorry, in your above description, did you mix up the words cartomizer with tank? Very confusing explaination. I appologise if I am misreading your method.

Are you attempting to put the endcaps on the carto separately, without the tube? Your explanation seemed to indicate that.

refil drip tip.jpg

Well, if I'm not mistaken from the image, that drip tip should only double as a tank accessory tool to protect the o-rings and help guide the cartomizer through the endcaps. Putting e-liquid into this drip tip/tool will allow the liquid to get into the air hole and cause flooding. A tank should only be filled with BOTH endcaps on the tank tube, with the cartomizer pushed DOWN through the tank with the drip tip/tank tool. The above drip tip/tool will keep liquid from going into the carto during tank filling. I believe that is its purpose.

Maybe the tool has been misnamed as a tank filling tool; instead it should be called an accessory tool. A better discription on how to use it should be in the product description. Do not put liquid directly into the drip tip.

Can anyone else confirm this or offer added insight? OCD?

If the carto won't go through the endcaps of an assembled tank after some e-liquid lubrication, then the endcap holes have a defect. Contact IBTanked and they will work something out for you for a replacement.

There HAVE been a few problems with defects with the acrylic caps that I am aware of, and IBTanked customer service has responded quickly.

As previously mentioned, lube three orings that grip the Casio before inserting it.

Also, the carto goes in by twisting it, like screwing in s light bulb, rather than pushing straight. A twisting motion compresses the oring, versus straight push which is s shearing force.

(the twisting only needs to be done while the carto top edge is clearing each of the top and bottom rings)

Ya I know the explanation is really confusing, hard to explain. I'll try it keep it more simple below. I really do think it was defected caps. My friend told me to contact IBtanked. I did, I got no help or advice. It's possible it got overlooked. The caps(thank god) are broken now anyways. It's been a nightmare.

The assembled tank would be impossible to fit onto the cartomizer. The cap hole diameter was simply too small. The only way, was putting a drip tip on a cartomizer, then assembling the tank over the drip tip with force. First force bottom cap, then tube, then top cap over drip tip onto the cartomizer. Without a drip tip, the caps refused to go on the cartomizer. If the tank slid off the bottom too much? Haha... Do it all over again. Oh and you lost your juice on your pants. Fun times. I didn't experience any flooding issues though.

Trying to use the correct method was impossible, because once the cartomizer was dis-assembled from the cap, it would not go back up into the cap. Hopefully, that made more sense.

But hey, sounds like the filling drip tip is sooooo not what I thought it was. Off the list, and a few bucks saved. Thanks.

Mark-
Yes I had lubed, I had twisted, I had tried my damn-est to work with these caps.

Another question that needs to be asked: were these cartomizers pre-punched with laser-drilled holes, or tool-punched cartos?
dctank-cartomizer.jpgtool-punched carto.jpg
Laser-drilled carto and a tool-punched carto.

If your cartos are the tool-punched ones, they often will deform the shape of the carto from round to oval shaped, making it difficult to pass through the cap at the point of defect. And the IBTanks caps are notoriously snug to begin with.

Any that have a cover, the cover needs to be removed, any residual glue removed. Bare stainless is Kerri with tanks, since the orings need a tight seal.

The extra thickness of the wrapper, and glue, makes a carto too wide for a proper fit. It might dig out divots in the ring, if forced, that then make insertion of even a proper plain Carlo not work.

They had been carto punched just slightly above the threading, maybe a half inch. Most of the time I do take care to get off as much of the white paper and such as much as possible. Return not happening at this point. The tube has been abused, caps working actually... but broken. Vaping some sweet cinnamon right now with the carto tank. I'm putting this one in the live and learn bin. Sorry if it went into a rant. It's been stressful.

If the same issue comes up again, I'm going to try to push IBtanked to see if it's possible for them to be returned and the center lathed just slightly since I'm getting SS caps.

Or better yet, I may just check out other options before I commit to a purchase. I dunno yet.

If you sent an email already to IBTanked, I'm certain that they will contact you within a day or two.

They are a Mom & Pop & Daughter (the Offspring) operation and with just three running the business, they stay pretty busy. I know they work hard to provide excellent customer service.

Most of us cartotankers went through ups and downs as we gained experience in their use. I hope you give them another shot, as there are many people whose preferred method of vaping is with these. Good luck.

Here
I had seen these refilling drip tips before and wondered the same question. Then, in another thread, I saw people mention the "slap yo momma tool," whose purpose seems to be just that, a refillable drip tip/mouthpiece.

vs.

Chrome Anodized Refilling Drip Tip
$2.50 (Also in Black Anodized Aluminum, as shown in a previous user's post)
refil%20drip%20tip%20chrome8.jpg

They do the same thing, no?
These things make it so you don't have to go through the drama of removing the drip-tip/mouthpiece and push down the carto and la de da, and instead when you see your juice running low you can refill right through this elongated drip-tip/mouthpiece/refilling-tool, which allows juice to pass right into the tank instead of directly into the cartomizer? That's how I've understood it, from the product listings.

$12.99 vs $2.50 is a big difference for me for something that'll do the same thing and hold up relatively well. Stainless steel vs. anodized aluminum.

I like my invention better.
I disagree.

Just to clarify the difference between the two tank accessory tools above:

The Slap Yo Momma tool protects o-rings, helps guide a filled carto thru the end caps safely, and provides an easy way to push the carto down the tank for tank refills and prevents liquid getting into the carto's air hole when filling the tank. The SYM tool does not have a center hole, so can not be used as a drip tip mouthpiece for a tank.

The tank tool from IBTanked that can double as a drip tip does all of the above. However, you CAN NOT fill a tank or carto through this drip tip/tool - trying to do so will only put liquid into the air hole of the carto, exactly what you DO NOT want to do - doing so will only flood the carto.

Just look at the design of the tool: if you drip liquid into the tip, where is it going to go? Through the drip tip and into the carto AND the center air hole. The juice is not going to go where you want it to go.

The explaination on how this tool functions is not adequately explained and I believe misleading on the product description on IBTanked. Unless OCD can counter my above statements, do not drop your e-liquid into the mouthpiece, or you'll be sorry.
