I recently purchased a new mod (Kanger subox Nano). It came with .5 Ohm coils. The place where I found the best price for replacements is out of the .5 ohm. I think the coils on my old mod were 1.5 Ohm and I was happy with them although they were a different type. I'm trying to make sure I won't be disappointed in the 1.2ohm before I purchase a bunch of them in bulk. I really don't understand the nuances of this electrical stuff. All I do know is I generally vape at 7-7.5 watts . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, ~metafizik

Since you vape at low power, you should go with the 1.2 ohm coil, it's stated operating range is 12 to 25W. The 0.5 ohm coil operating range is 15 to 25W. You can vape lower watts than the stated range with most mods. I would try one box to make sure you like them before you buy a lot.

+1 on what @David Wolf said. Try the lower Ω coil to make sure that is the one you like before buying in bulk.

I have the Subtank Mini (a little larger juice capacity than the Nano) and run the 0.5Ω horizontal coil at 40 watts. I tried turning it down to 8 watts and nothing happens. Way to low a power level to even heat up the metal to vaporize any juice.

In general:

Lower Ohm Coils Will:
  • Heat The Coil Faster
  • Produce More Vapor
  • Drain The Battery Faster
  • Use E-Juice Faster
  • Produce A Warmer Tasting Vape
Higher Ohm Coils Will:
  • Heat The Coil Slower, Which Will Produce “Less” Vapor
  • Provide A “Cooler” Tasting Vape
  • Use Less E-Juice
  • Prolong Battery Life
A variable power battery (voltage and/or wattage) is advantageous in being able to adjust the power output to the user's preference. Not all flavors taste their best at a single fixed voltage. For example, most fruit flavors are best at a lower power setting, while flavors like tobacco or coffee flavors may taste better at a higher setting. However, this is very subjective to the individual vaper's personal taste.

The rule of thumb for EVERY vape device you'll ever own is the same. Start low power, take a draw and bump it up to repeat. If it starts to taste funny, gets too hot or tastes burnt, back it down. Different flavors will have different sweet spots so you just have to experiment.

You know what?

I buy them from China and don't even bother to choose just one resistance. I just buy a mixture.

However at under 10 watts you should definitely get the 1.2ohm ones.

Then again, to be totally honest, if you are vaping at these power levels (no wrong or right) even the 1.2ohm coils are not really ideal. They hardly work at such low power.
You want something that sizzles along nicely.

(it's complicated, but I think people will understand what I am saying..)

I don't have the 1.2Ω coil to try but I agree. I can't see how a 1.2Ω coil would run well at 8 watts. If the coil was +1.8Ω, then that low of a power level would make more sense (to me). I don't think Kanger makes a coil for the nano/mini at that high a resistance.

I can confirm that my Spheroid V3 at 1.8Ω (1.2% nic) is PERFECT at 8 watts. (~3.75V)
Air flow dictates it seems...

Thank you. I saw the lost cost coils from China but the last time I bought something from there it took a month to receive the item. I kept searching and found them at the same price from an outfit out of WA state.

I only have the coil that is in it now as I promptly burnt the 1st one up because I didn't read the instructions. I realize it likely varies depending on the wattage & frequency of vaping but in general approximately how long can I expect these coils to last? I use the ones on my other mod for 2-3 weeks w no appreciable decrease in performance. They don't have the cotton though. I'm guessing these won't last as long due to the exposed cotton wicks.

The box did say it came with 2 coils. Maybe the one I have in there now is NOT .5 ohms? The next time I refill the juice I will try to see what the ohms are.

I think it came with a .5 and a 1.5. I must have the 1.5 in there.

Your coils are cotton. Most coils are.

All cotton coils have to be primed well with juice. If they are not primed well the cotton will burn. Once the cotton is burned the burned taste doesn't go away.

To prime the coil, drop 5-8 drops (sometimes less/more depending on the size of the coil head) of juice right inside the coil, another drop of juice in all the holes on the side of the coil. Put the coil in the base.
  • If Bottom Filling - Fill the tank and then screw the base back onto the tank.
  • If Top Filling (not all tanks can be top filled) - Screw the tank on the base and then top fill it.
Once you put the tank on the battery give it several unpowered primer puffs. This will make sure the wick is fully saturated.

Turn you voltage/wattage down, take a few hits, bump it up, couple more hits. Repeat until you find your "sweet spot". If it starts to taste funny, gets too hot or tastes burnt, back it down. Different flavors will have different sweet spots so you just have to experiment.

Whatever you are using, it has cotton.

(unless you have some old silica wick coils)

2-3 weeks is an unusually long time to last. What make were they?
Maybe they call them atomizers? Here is a link to an image of the ones I use in my other device. I was wrong on the ohms. They are 2.5ohms smoktech atomizer heads DC 2.5 liquid hole adjustable dual coil atomizers - Google Search I easily get 2-3 weeks out of them, sometimes I go longer. I probably don't vape as frequently as most. I definitely don't vape as much as I used to smoke.

I learned the "burned task doesn't go away very quickly". I won't ever do that again.

I have verified that I have a 1.5Ω in there now. Even though it says it's rated from 10-15 (I think it said) it works fine at 7.5

I have a TC coil that is already <4 weeks old. I don't vape it that much but when I do it has a great taste.
My first CE4 lasted less than 12 hours. I think we can say Vaping technology is going in the right direction.

I knew a man who got in early on the vaping scene to quit his smoking habit. He was using 5 or 6 Joyetech atomizers (eGo-tank type) a week. I gave him a mini Protank and showed him how to rebuild it.
Last seen using an iSub i.i.r.c.
