We use cotton and "fiberglass" as wicks. Our coils are made from kanthal or nicrome wire.

Cotton is organic and will catch on fire if not soaked with e-liquid.

"Fiberglass" or Silica is man-made glass fiber that is virtully heat resistant.

A lot of people prefer cotton because it is inexpensive to replace into the coil and delivers a more pure flavor.

Actually and it's not a big point we us silica wicks not fiberglass. Fiberglass has nasty stuff in it that would not be good for us. Fiberglass has other compounds in it. I believe also that Silica will handle higher temperatures. Cotton is a better wick material but it does not last long. The first dry hit and yo have a burnt non-wick.

When I started rebuilding coils it took me several tries and also a lot of patience to pull a bit of cotton thru the coil. Now I can wrap the Kanthal around a braided cotton wick in five seconds.

Roll the cotton between your fingers and insert it into the coil. Once the juice hits the cotton expands to fill the void in the coil. If it burns at some point in the future, pull it out and replace it.

I've been recoiling some Kanger heads. When I use cotton, the cloud is thicker and usually taster. Silica is much nicer to deal with. I can drop them into the ultrasonic cleaner for several cycles and then dry burn and let them dry overnight.

With cotton you can pull out the wicking, dry burn the coil carefully in pulse mode, and replace the wicking.
