I'm just getting interested in DIY e-liquid and tobacco extraction and I find that I really like flavor of Desert Ship. I can add pre-mixed DS to juices I don't like and make them usable, even enjoyable in some cases, so I think I need to have a good stock of Desert Ship flavoring on hand for my DIY experiments. What I'd like is to get some recommendations on the best sources for DS flavoring.

I just finished off a bottle of Dekang and Hangsen DS and of the two I prefered the Hangsen, but the actual falvor seemed quite similar and I think maybe the Dekang just had too much flavor. I think if I had diluted the Dekang it might have been pretty close to the Hangsen.

So, the name that comes up most in my Desert Ship searches is FlavorArts, but I get the impression that there are other makers. I haven't really found anywhere that lists and compares DS flavors so that's why I started this thread. I'd really appreciate any input or if I've missed an existing thread a link would be great!

Thanks!!

Hello there,

Desert Ship is a tricky one. I have not found one flavour to completely re-create the Chinese DS Liquid.

The Flavour Art flavouring is nothing like the original DS liquid - to my palate it is rather vile even.

My closest attempt was using IW S'Camel flavour and add some peanut flavour to it.

Best regards

VapingZone is highly recommended for tobacco juices here. I have to agree. I haven't tried their Desert Ship so can't tell you much about it, but their other tobacco flavors are some of my favorites.

Thanks singu!

That sounds encouraging. When I do order some DS I'll probally want some other tobacco flavors too, so VapingZone is looking good.

What VaporZone tobacco flavores are your favorites?

I have the VZ Desert Ship and it is pretty good. I do a 50-50 with 3% DS. Let it steep for 15 days and it rocks. Not 100% Dekang, but better in my books.
Also use it as base to add a drop or two of other flavors with some exciting and some blah results.

Thanks zzipy! Looks like VZ it is. Yeah, so far I pretty much like anything mixed with DS...a little Tobacco Extract, other flavors - even ones I don't care for at all like Dekang's Red USA mix tastes pretty good with enough DS and a little tobacco extract.

I really like the smooth, mild flavor of TFA M-type tobacco mixed at 0.5% or 1%. UNFORTUNATELY,it needs to steep a month or longer to get to that point. Ant sooner, and it is harsh and unvapable.
Desert Ship by VZ is also harsh, even after steeping forever.

Thanks for posting, glassmanoak! Have you seen bobalex's thread on speeding up steep times using an ultrasonic cleaner?

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=348635

I haven't tried it but it's supposed to get a good steep in a day or two rather than weeks.

Would you say the VZ Desert Ship is harsher than Dekang/Hangsen DS pre-mixed e-liquid? Because I could see some considering DS harsh in general even though I personally like it. It does have a sting.

I haven't tried many tobacco flavors other than the ones I have made, so saying DS was harsh is just my own opinion.
I do use an Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner on all my mixtures. It works GREAT!
I can steep M-type tobacco in 3 days rather than 5 weeks.

Cool! Gonna have to pick up an ultrasonic cleaner too I guess. Thanks for the info!

With regards to the DS and the aforementioned S'Camel check out my review of the Inawera tobacco http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323908

The "Dromedary" is now called S'Camel in their shop.

Best,

Ozy.

Thanks again Ozy!

"S'camel", that's hilarious! Best camel knockoff name yet!!

Looks like the big winner in your review, and it's pretty inexpensive, but I haven't looked into shipping cost yet. Seems like it would be nice to have it around - I'll definitely look into it and keep it in mind!
